Air con issue octavia II

Featured Replies

Hi

I've searched the posts but haven't found anyone with a problem like mine - so am posting to see if anyone has any advice...

I have a 2007 octavia II elegance, which has the climatronic air con. When I first switch on the air con (ie turn econ off) it blows fairly cold and fairly strong (I think it's normal but don't really have anything to compare to). Then after a short period the air gradually falls to almost nothing, although I can hear the fans still going in the background. If I switch econ on it blasts out again and switching econ back off starts the cycle again. The time for the air to cut out seems to vary between about 30sec and a couple of minutes.

I had the local dealer have a look at the latest service a couple of weeks ago and he thought it needed a new air con control unit - the controls on the dash - part number 1z0907044 ab3x1. He also quoted £700, which isn't going to happen and didn't seem particularly convinced that this would solve the issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts about whether changing the control unit will work? If so I'll buy a second hand one and fit myself - I think I can do this from other posts on here but are there any techie things I need to be aware of. The dealer said I'd need to get it coded to the car - is that right?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

When you switch on Econ it can only brings the inside temp down to the outside temp, it is not capable of reducing the inside temp. to below that of the outside air.

In other words the cooling effect of the ac is off.

With Auto it brings down the temp to what you require regardless of the outside temp. When it reaches that temp. sometimes it will blow slightly warm if it has went below the temp. set. When the temp has reached what was set then the fans slow down just doing enough the maintain that set temp.

This is what my oct elegance 06 does and on hot days after settling down the fans are barely on

If you have a thermometer try sticking it in the air vents when auto is on and set to 16c and see what happens it may go down to 8c and back up but if it does then its working . Try it with Econ on and I think you'll find it stays cool but rises to the outside temp.

Pity you did not have someone elses car to compare yours with

Thanks for the reply but it's not cutting out at the set temperature - eg in the recent not weather the temperature in the car was 30+ and with the air con set at 16 it still cuts out after a short time.

Also, another thing is that it immediately cuts out when I switch recirculate on.

I've had it regarded and that made no difference.

Any help on this would really be appreciated

When's the last time pollen filter was replaced ?

Pollen filter was replaced within the last couple of months...

ac normally switches off when recirculate is switched on.

If I press recirculate the air instantly stops coming out but I can hear the fans still going...?

have you tried resetting the system / flaps by holding econ down and pressing the bottom right of the rectangular direction control buttons?

Yes, and I can hear all flaps moving.

I've removed the underside of the dash and can see that when recirculate comes on, the external air intake closes off but the internal doesn't. However, when I use the reset function, I can see the internal intake flap move, so it isn't seized.

did you resolve this ??
