TFSI is pretty quiet inside the cabin in mine.

 

It does have a little shimmy on idle. It's always done it. It think it's the DMF doing something. It's never changed in 6yr so I don't worry about it. I wouldn't say it would shake me though.

My 2011 TSi is pretty silent inside. Only ever hear it if I floor it. Even then it's pretty quiet!

My 56 pkate tfsi sounds exactly the same but seems ok to me...

I had a GTI '05 plate with the same engine. Sounded like a diesel outside, fairly quiet inside. Think yours is probably ok, but no harm in getting it checked out.

FWIW, the newer TSI is quieter, but not by much.

Sorry about the shocking shaky hand video recording but its the sound your after. I tried to get as close to the engine as possible and from inside the car with the door open. About half way through I blip the throttle and it drops to normal tick over about 800rpm. Its noticeably quieter and with the bonnet closed all you can hear is the ticking. Once your inside you can't hear the engine. I believe this is the normal sounding TFSi.

Top tip - when you're trying to record engine noise inside the cabin, turn the stereo off

And for god's sake man - put some proper shoes on!

Sounds like a perfectly normal, healthy, Massey Ferguson (TFSi) to me

I thought there was a big difference between my 06 vrs and my current MY12 vrs. The older car sounded the same at idle, but under load and when lifted off sounded much gruffer than the new car. Current one sounds like a yaris inside, mist disappointing. Not fussed about scaring pedestrians, but how it sounds inside is critical to enjoying using the engine.

Dunno but the sound isn't that much of a worry but if you have lumpy idle then maybe the coilpack is to blame.....Mine i can say for certain has a different sound to yours and is silent......TSI 2012 engine in mine....

I took my vRS in for a service yesterday, the usual oil change etc. and since having this done, my car has noticeable reduced in noise level!

 

For anyone interested, I swapped over from Interval servicing to Fixed servicing, so obviously the oil is now different (i've been topping up with Castrol Edge 5w-30 and it's now using the VAG recommended Quantum 5w-40).

 

 

Also worth mentioning that the mechanic at the VAG specialist I go to, noticed that the oil filter was missing a part!! The worst bit is that my car had full skoda service history before I bought it, so don't always count on the dealership being useful!

I agree with the fixed servicing.....will be getting mine sorted and re programmed for that....9000 service....
