Hi all, picked up my new vRS on Saturday at midnight so have had it a couple of days now. This thread is just a few pictures and impressions of the car for those of you eagerly awaiting your cars!

 

My VAG love affair started a couple of years back with this:

 

 

Bog standard apart from it picking up some limited edition full leathers sometime in it's life.

 

Next up was a Mkii Octavia FL Greenline 1:

 

 

I loved the Greenline. It was my first 'grown up' car and was faultless. No rattles, no faults over 50,000 miles in 2 years, so I was a little sad to see it go.

 

However the opportunity arose for a change, so after a couple of weeks of waiting, the picture above became this:

 

 

Quite a step up, going from the 1.6 105bhp to the 2.0 185bhp.

 

As I said earlier, I loved the greenline, so when I say the mkiii is a significant improvement in all areas I'm not exaggerating. I know the new vRS has more kit etc but the overall feel of the car is streets ahead, ride comfort, sharpness at turn in, build quality, materials etc.

 

In terms of economy, my old greenline 1 and the new vrs aren't dissimilar in quoted mpg figures, CO2 emissions etc. My daily commute is 45 miles each way, 20 miles b/a roads and 25 miles on the m4. The greenline would return 60mpg and 600 miles out of a tank regardless of how it was driven. I had 850 miles out of it once but that was a long and slow trip! The new vRS has just over 250 miles on the clock and is so far showing an indicated 55mpg since I filled the car on Sunday morning. Not a shabby return for something so new. I expect it to become 60+ when the engine has freed up. Obviously the 55mpg is only a maxidot indication and I have no idea how accurate it is yet, but it's looking promising. 

 

I've read a couple of posts claiming the build quality/materials used aren't up to scratch but I'm sorry that's rubbish. The mkiii is such a nice place to be compared to the mkii, which itself was a pretty nice place to be! The refreshed layout, materials etc are of a superior quality to the mkii, it seems a lot classier. The seats are incredibly comfortable when considering their shape, but I will say the material used on the centre of the seats does seem a little cheap. I don't think it will wear excessively but it has a shiny quality that doesn't fit with the rest of the car (probably a ploy to get you to pay for a full leather upgrade!).

 

Thing's I love: 

• Hill hold - I know it's not a new feature but haven't read about it anywhere so wasn't expecting it. Thought my brakes had seized when I took my foot off and the car didn't roll backwards for 5 seconds!
• 
  
• Steering wheel controls - intuitive buttons, easy to use.
• 
  
• Driving mode - you can actually tell the difference between sport & eco. Normally these buttons are pointless but drive in eco for a bit, put it in sport and the car feels transformed. Eco mode is pretty useful to keep you subdued sometimes!
• 
  
• The power - obviously it's new to me but it really is intoxicating, it's like a rocket. I test drove both the petrol and the diesel and believe me, there is not a lot of difference between the two.
•

Thing's I hate:

• None.

Improvements:

• It would be nice to be able to select the driving mode from the steering wheel controls, potentially a VAGCOM upgrade in the future?

• Cruise as standard - miss it from my greenline.

Overall, so far, I'm over the moon with my new vRS. It's an enormous leap ahead compared to my greenline, and with the mrs having a new citigo at the same time meant we got a very good deal on them both.

The first white one? Perhaps. Me and the missis getting the same. Nice to see a non CGI image. We're getting anthracite wheels but deffo happy with our choice.

Looks realy nice, hopefully ours will be in build this week. We have ordered the white with  black wheels but a petrol with dsg box, your pictures have confirmed we made the right choice of colour!

Looks amazing. Saw the exact colour combination at Goodwood in July. I only bought my MK2 last year so I am a few years before I swap!

Lovely looking car. Looks like the white is going to be more common than the blue this time.

I saw two at the dealer this week. ( Black and white) the sunset looked as dark to me. im a wee bit gutted I didn't get it on mine.

Looks great, I am thinking of getting one next march,

Can you tell me if it comes with Xenons as standard, and weather or not you can switch them to tourist mode with maxidot.

The Pictoris only come in silver, mine were painted by the dealers. The Geminis come in anthracite or silver.

I test drove a petrol DSG and f**k me it was quick, if I didn't do 500 miles a week that's the combo I would've gone for, nice choice!

Again the dealers organised the windows to be tinted, mine are darker than the optional sunset glass.

Yes, the only seat cover I had in the garage unfortunately, as soon as some seat covers are out there that'll fit the seats I'll be changing it out!

As above, just get them tinted when you've got the car. The tints make a real difference inside, the mrs think it's nice and cosy :think:

Yes xenons are standard, and yes the bolero allows you to change the light set up from right hand drive to left hand drive.

Oh and a nice little surprise, when I looked in the spare wheel well for the dreaded gel and compressor, a nice little spacesaver and tool kit was staring back up at me. Some of the early build cars must've come with them from the factory.

Congrats on the new car Lee, looking very nice indeed. Now thats what I call an upgrade - Greenline to vRS. I like the black wheels with the white paint, looks very uber cool. Enjoy your new motor

I was wondering if you had applied your own products to the paint or whether this was how that car came from the dealers? It is looking uber shiny which is not always easy on white so would be keen to find out products used.
