Anyone used this site to buy their car?

Featured Replies

Indeed - but you won't get the 0% PCP on that. If you are buying cash then that's fine.... I've not used these sites, but did use them to get a better deal at my local dealership

Another example was Orangewheels, until they decided to exclude vRS's again. Their dealer associate was Listers Skoda Cov (who I had hell with).

They offered a big(ish) discount for cash, but only 3.5% off the RRP to get the 0% finance deal.

If its cash deals you are looking for, along with Drivethedeal, you could also try Carfile.net amongst others.

I would try to get your dealer down though, it helps to have a good relationship when it comes to servicing etc.

Plus, as it's a 0% deal on the motor, you're not going to get a better savings rate and use the spare to offset your mortgage.

I can vouch for carfile, as I bought mine through that site. Run by a chap called Johnathan Lawless, who is sound as a pound.

I used drive the deal for my current octy and still got all skoda offers on top of the discount, i.e servicing and low rate finance. Would 0% be different?!

I have a good relationship with my dealer and mentioned carwow to them last week, he said they were about to sign up to it.

Carfile got me about 5% off, plus 0% financing and 3 years free servicing.

Similarly I got 4.6% off with the 0% deal etc etc through a local ish dealer, I went with that as I was happy to have someone local who I can annoy if I need to, but also agree that the internet brokers seem to be a very valid route.

The challenge with the 0% is that I believe the dealers simply pay the interest you'd have to have paid anyway - so it's going to save you more if you were only planning to put down a small deposit, but not much if you were going to chuck a lot of money at the deposit.

If you can get the car at that price on the 0% i'd be surprised, orangewheels instantly said their initial quote was wrong if I wanted the 0%.

Interesting they've dropped the vRS as well, must be doing well!

Are the dealers still able to offer you finance at the more normal 4.9% rate if they give you a hefty discount.

For someone with £12k or so to put down as a deposit then a cheap car and standard finance could work out better for you.

It helps as an opening gambit if nothing else. I used an orangewheels quote as a starter with my local dealer. Ended up ordering the vRS under the 0% deal and 5.4% off total price inc. options (quite a few) from the local dealer. You can see the spec in the forum owner register.

interesting point there Dr.

Quick punch on the calculator shows that the difference between 0% and 4.9% for £10k over 3 years is actually only £20.50 a month....

But surely the point is that the 0% deal is a VW finance initiative and the dealer margin (14% is it nowadays?) is completely separate?

Though I'd agree it would seem that the dealers are having to pay for the 0%.

It would seem a little tight of skoda to make the national campaign come out of the dealers pocket.

But then they are in business to make money.

  • 3 weeks later...

I used the carwow site, turned out to give a very decent deal on a VRS petrol hatch for me, with the 0% pcp, 3 year servicing AND a 6% discount.

It was so easy to use, and would certainly recommend it. obviously, ordered now! :)

I've just ordered a petrol dsg vrs estate through skodastore.com they passed my details onto a main dealer who offered me a hefty discount 12% free servicing and 0% finance! Couldn't be happier!!

Did you part exchange? Was the 0% PCP or not? And it wont let me add options to the base car so I have just requested a quote on the standard model, is that what you ordered?

Yes it was 0% PCP. I had trouble adding extras as well, the dealer just added them on when he phoned. They are going to take my car as part ex but it's being done separately in case I sell it for more privately

Cool. I will see what comes back for me then. Who was the dealer?

Very well done as that appears to be a one off! Max discount I can get to is 5% including the 0% finance. By my reckoning the dealer is selling at quite a loss.... which is very confusing!

Rainworth in Mansfield were the dealer. I did try to get my local dealer to match it but they could get nowhere close.

Well done indeed, a 12% discount with everything else is exceptionally good. I actually thought the dealer margin with the pcp was around 6%, so that is amazing.

have any of you had a trade in when using these websites? was wondering when they passed you to the dealer if the dealer would then accept trade ins?

Ive worked out its 8% so they've sold at a 4% loss in this instance. Maybe its down to it being right at the end of the third quarter and they needed the car sold to hit a target for a bonus?! Sounds very out of sync with what the four local dealers have expressed to me though.

what kind of discound have you managed at your local dealers mate?

About 4.5% seems to be the tops but I reckon if I walked in with the deposit and said i'll do it if you can make it 5%... they may go for it. I had one dealership tell me there is no chance of any discount whatsoever on Saturday. So I said 'cheerio' and walked out. :bandit:

I've so far had 3 tell me that :(

Just received my email quote from skodastore.com of £20,103 for a standard VRS 2.0 TDi.

Yet to discover what happens with trade in and options and what finance deal applies though.
