I love my vrs but......

Featured Replies

What's bugging me to death is that when you open the boot when it's been raining all the water on the boot lid ends up splashing into the car!! Grrr!!

I know there's probably nothing that can be done about this but just wanted a rant at this bloody stupid design flaw

+1

Didn't someone post a partial remedy to this recently by using a rubber gaiter off of some other car in the rear window base? Ave a search, looked pretty ff

Think it was off a Vauxhall Corsa wasn't it?

Got an estate, so am without this flaw.....

I think so, I too have an estate and don't have this problem. It is to do with the rear window of the hatch and the shallow angle which makes the water rush into the boot when opened. The trick is open it slowly - so I believe.

I was going to say there is a cure for this - get an estate !

I agree with the open slowly advice....

I am also without this flaw emoticon-0100-smile.gif Its just a pity that my car has so many others as listed in my signature emoticon-0106-crying.gif

It's amazing skoda carried over this unique feature from the mk 1,along with the sawtoothing rear tyres :)

Ah yes.....good old sawtoothing or fifty pencing for those older generation of people on here...

this happens on pretty much every 5dr hatch of this style and even worse if they have a small spoiler like the vrs does.

I had before the vrs, a 5dr Civic vti-s and it did exactly the same

Open it slowly, that cuts out the worst of it.

No hatchback I have ever owned has not leaked into the boot.

I guess some are worse than others but most do it, the Octavia is no exception.

Too much polish causing the water to bead on the glass / spoiler / lid etc. doesn't help.

My last car didn't do it (mk 1 leon cupra) maybe because the spoiler was at the top of the hatch rather than the bottom?

With the rain over the last few days and me being in and out of the boot for various reasons this is really getting on my wick. The boot carpet gets wet and the car steams up in the back.

I'm now formulating a plan for a subtle mod....

Keep me posted. If there is a way to stop this happening I need to know

The boot annoys me too.

So does the fact that nearly all modern cars let so much water in around the front windows when opened, especially if you have just done the screen wash or early in the morning with a heavy dew!

I tend to always drive with the windows slightly open and keep getting caught out :(

Older cars did not do it as they had seams but do not think I would go back to those days not now.

Keep us posted on any mods to avoid the water :)

I find opening the hatch slowly and letting the water bead off helps- have you tried some glass treatment like rain x or the gtechnik stuff to help it run off easily and is the paitwork well waxed? I've got a reusable dehumidifying bag off ebay which seems to help too.

I have noticed the same thing......however, having owned two Mondeos previously (a Mk II and a MKIII) I can confirm that the Octavia is not alone.....both Mondeos had a habit of doiong it too!

Mine doesn't really do this. I just open it up and you might get like 1 splash into the boot, but the rest just runs off down the 'slides' to the side of the boot

The estate has the opposite problem - if you leave the boot open in the rain, then close the boot, the water that has accumulated in the number plate recess pours all over the closer (so get the wife to do it) :giggle:
