Retrofit new Columbus

Featured Replies

I already ordered a GPS antenna, and you're right: I'm going to place it behind the screen. Fitting the mic in the original location isn't hard to do. The hard part is to place the cable from the display unit all the way on the left and then up on the windshield pole and to the interior light unit on the top.

  • unfortunately no as the nav units need the CD unit which has two SD card slots, one for maps and the other for music.

For that you can use a hard wire hook and run it to the fuse box with the mic cable attached to it.

Just confirm, I don't have any extra units under my seat for Bluetooth

Interesting, so it means that the Bolero you have, has integrated bluetooh functionality. Then why is it that others have that unit under the front driver's seat? Is it for low end units like swing?

Are you sure that is not for the Canton audio system? I think you can get Canton with either Bolero, Amundsen or Columbus - it is just an extra audio amplifier.

You can get a USB Bluetooth receiver the size of a stamp - I cannot believe that Skoda would install an extra box and run wires just to add Bluetooth to Bolero ;)

If you check the sale area, you'll find a thread with someone who sold what I'm talking about.

Went to check it and they seem to be talking about the Mk2 FL ;)

That's good news! Thanks!

I just got the new Columbus MIB1, but I have some issues retrofitting it instead of the Bolero MIB1. If anyone could help me out, I'd much appreciate it!

The thing is that the new display has, just as the old one, two connectors, but one of them, the white one is not compatible, as the cable already existing on the car can't connect to the new display as the guiding signs are not aligned properly. How should I treat this?

Another thing is that the old Bolero has on the back of the unit in the glovebox a different set of connectors than the new Columbus unit. The bolero has the multipin connector, one yellow, one pink, and one white, but the Columbus has the multipin, one yellow, one blue and one white. All old cables can be connected to the new Columbus glovebox unit, but the pink cable can't be connected to the blue socket, and I don't know if it should be connected here. Also, the Columbus has several inputs that I don't know what to connect them to. Can anyone help me out with some info? I've also attached a picture of both back displays and the cable that should connect to the new display and also the back of both glovebox units.

Blue connector on the rear of the Columbus is the GPS antenna so the sat nav knows where you are. You'll need to provide a GPS antenna.

Thanks for your answer! Alright, that's a start. I do have the GPS antenna in the package and now, thanks to you, I know where to plug it in. One down and a lot more to go. Anyone else regarding the other issues I raised?

I managed to figure it out: all I had to do is trim the plastic guidances on the connectors that were not a perfect fit. That's it.

Do make a guide, since at some point others might do the same ;)

Photos are welcome...

The above explanations and pictures are pretty much self explanatory. All that's required to do when retrofitting a Columbus instead of Bolero on an Octavia 3 is trim the little plastic guidance things with a nailclipper, for example, and the pink cable (mine was pink), connect it to the blue entry on the Columbus clovebox unit. For all other cables follow the color code (white to white, black to black and yellow to yellow), also the GPS antenna is on the far left on the backside of the glovebox unit. I'm guessing that the one entry on the far right side is for the microphone.

But now I have another question, as all works, but on the MFD I have no navigation info, nor phone info. Does anyone know how exactly am I suppose to do to activate those too? I'm guessing, again, that I need to do some coding, but I didn't find anything when searching here. Maybe I might have searched for a wrong reference?...
