The "new" Columbus unit actually has 64Gb of internal memory of which just 12Gb is available for users, the rest is reserved memory for the Satellite Navigation mapping & Gracenote DB.

Having found that out I'm somewhat disappointed as that means that I would lose about 6-7Gb worth of music from my collection.

Personally I think that 12Gb is a pretty putrid amount to be left free, when you consider most phones offer you 14-56Gb (if you include memory cards), mine has 64Gb available when empty.

Its because the headunit now controls so much more of the 'car ' settings, hence mega software space requirement but at £1350 from the factory, i agree, more free space would be expected when you consider the old columbus/rns510 had 30gb

The Colombus, and the discover pro main unit is the same...

They retrofitted it, and works without CP, and map lock.

But from the YouTube video they have something connected to the canbus via crocodile clips - I wonder what that is?

Probably something like an "out of the car" activation using some sort of boolean algebra calculator like you do, when defeating SVM in Audi's

I have some good news about Columbus/Discover pro. It's possible to retrofit in. Just need some non-locked (CP, navi) firmware on unit. No need to visit official dealer. It's done by ukrainian team - APG https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7gUJ_eNlGTQcDq6SyTpGdg

They want about 10k euro for solution. Firmware with unlocked maps and no check component protection is  UNIVERSAL on all columbus units.

Hmmm... 10k euro for a dodgy unit with dodgy hacked firmware from some dodgy Ukrainians... what could possibly go wrong?  Would you have to go to Ukraine to have it fitted too?

 

And at that price, you'd be better off taking the hit and ordering a new car with Columbus fitted from the factory!

yes, you're right! We need to wait a some time One moment, if unit already visited dealer, and dealer removed CP - it is impossible to unlock navi.

Russians already bought this solution and have successful retrofit :( They want about 2k$ for main unit and display.

Changing the admunsen screen to a Columbus screen is it possible?

Nope, i've tried that! All buttons work but the picture are muck up and blurry, only the middle of the screen will have touch function..

I've almost solved the retrofit by modify 3 files on Columbus and disable protection via Skoda dealer. But sometimes its not working correctly. If you have a new unit from Skoda then it's almost plug&play if the dealer has installed correct "pin" file for your car on the new units.

Dealer already removed Component Protection, but map is locked up.

I'm becoming a little concerned the way that this thread is going, in that it's on about using slightly dodgy methods & websites.

Some weeks ago 15 Nav unit was stolen from the local VW dealer. Brand new cars (mostly Golfs) waiting for delivery to their owners was broken into. A week later 5 new cars was broken into and had their navigation units stolen at a different dealer not far from the first one. Seats destroyed, panels broken, cars wiring cutted, glass pieces all over. Same procedure.

Organized crime, definitely.....

I've been contacted by Skoda regarding my above posts.. They will sue me if I tell.. I don't believe it's Skoda therefor I'll just say guides and files might end up on a famous Swedish site.

Skoda do keep an eye on Briskoda. If I'm honest I don't want the component protection cracked. It's unfair on people who paid for factory fitted units who's cars now become targets for scumbags stealing these units.

It´s not about the Component Protection. I buyed a brandnew Headunit and Display for 3000 Euro. After putting it into my car, the Nav-Map works very fine, but CP was activatetd. Dealer removed CP, but at this moment the Map locked up after 30 sek. Thats the thing what is not fair...

 

I offered WOB a lot of money to unlock the map. But they do not support any Retrofit no longer.
