Could have been learning to drive on private roads and taken his test on his 17th birthday.........in fact I'm surprised he didn't :-)

would have been great to do that, but couldn't lol

My mind is actually spinning, I'm sure we talked about H&R Springs going 40mm lower in another thread.

You don't even have your licence yet, the car has brand spanking new warranty..............it's still at the dealers???

Changing the Back Box is not going to invalidate the Warranty.

Those friendly chaps in the Dealership can tell you that.

So do you want the Look, the Noise, the Extra Power, or what? or all 3.

Check out your Insurance Cover if you want the Increased Performance,

i imagine you got the 86 ps Monte Carlo to save on insurance. Or somebody wanted to slow you down.

Are you insuring it yourself, or going on dad's?

If you are insuring it yourself I doubt a few bhp from an exhaust would put it out of reach

Simples then.

With someone at the Dealership, look at the Tail Pipe and see where it can be cut off and another attachment put on.

Or were you intending doing things yourself?

im insuring it myself, with my dad and my brother as named drivers.. to bring the price down, try and have a guess at how much the insurance is?

£800 ?

It's cheaper before you pass your test usually as you are a better risk with a provisional and an experienced driver beside you.

Even after passing that is a respectable price

The choice is clear then, full miltek, stage 2 remap perhaps hybrid, coilies, semi slicks ARB's allround maybe a yellow vinyl wrap ;)

We need to get this lad's insurance up where it should be. 5k fully comp by Crimbo.

well id say that's going over the top, would be great though

^^^^ excellently put.......I was going to say learn to walk before you can run, but that was much more subtle :)

Jay, I know you're young but you need to slow down on your mods and little changes and concentrate on getting your car and passing your test first.

If you really do want a chrome exhaust tip then there is a specific one for the Monte that fits the downward facing pipe and comes out under the splitter, it has a dog leg in it that means it comes out level. Can't remember if it was on EBay or not but there is definetly one available.

Don't start trying to cut the bumper as any mistakes are going to be costly and most of the ones I have seen cut like that have looked a bit naff to be honest.

I work for a big insurance company who would be a bit miffed if you've done all these mods like the graphics you've had put on and the others you're talking about and not told them about it. If anything ever happened to your car then they'll be chomping at the bit to not have to pay out, so just beware if you don't already know about it.

Jay, your car is going to end up looking like its ram raided Halfords. You are going to own a car that actually blends in rather than stands out, and by that I mean that you and your car are going to be labelled as 'boy racer' and you will regarded the same on the open roads. Stand out by being different but subtle. The graphics are a big enough statement to get the car noticed and seen as unique but if you start putting on a cheap exhaust tip that sounds like a 50cc bike (on your video link) you really do run the risk of cheapening the car. When I was your age I had a Mk4 Golf and put on a cheap raspy tip and hated it from day one, I ended up changing it for a cat back s/s system and that was much better for looks and sound, which you say is what you want. If you aren't happy with the tip you choose its too late when you have cut a brand new valance!

That said, it is your car and do with it what you want, but you did say 'can I have some advise please' :)

hello buddy ive got monte carlo tdi same as yours  go oh ebay and put In  drop down exhaust  I think the seller is called 2xcite or something similar

My first car was a 1981 X-reg Gazelle Beige Vauxhall Astra 1300L "S".  The "S" meant it was the "hi-output" 1300.  So about 60 bhp for that car.

As you got to 60, it had a carb problem that made it hiccup - ideal on the motorway.  Also the auto choke was knackered, so I changed it for a manual one, which gave me the hiccup at 75 instead.

A couple of days after passing my test (and I was careful), I was going into a multi-story car park and ended up mounting the inside curb on the corkscrew entry ramp!

A couple of months later, I was boxed in at uni and had to squeeze my way out - stoved in my passenger door, which I hammered out, filled, resprayed to almost un-noticable.  That was an error in my judgement vs the effect of gravel car parks, that allowed me to move the car next to me.  Looking back, I should have left it (I was boxed left, right and behind).  I was late...

That car cost me £650 - I saved like a maniac to get it, all I could find for that money.  Can't remember insurance cost.  Sold it for £300, faults and all.

Soooooo, I am a) sooooo jealous I didn't have a brand new car from passing my test, B) equally luky, as I'd have wrecked it!  c)  Don't think the tip would look good - the Monte exhaust exits behind the rear splitter.  Cutting the splitter would be trick and allow you to see a stick on exhaust tip, with a cut out around it.  Now you could trim the cut out with a S/S panel or carbon look, to disguise the hacksaw marks, but I would leave it be.

I guess what I am trying to ramble on about is, you can f**k your car up pretty good as a novice driver, even if you're trying oh so hard not to.  I doubt you'll make the mistake I did in the car park, as logic would stop you - I was only trashing £100 worth of my car door (no damage to the other car).  Adding the exhaust tip is just a cosmetic change, but the actual changes to the bumper/splitter could de-value the car.

Good luck with the test!

I admire your determination, plans and balls given you don't actually have a full licence yet. :)

Ignore everyone, listen to your heart but learn from it if anything which doesn't go to plan or doesn't look how you want it.

Your money, your time and your car.

There's a driving school near me who seems to rent a massive part of a out of town shopping centre car park and advertises for 11-16 yr olds to learn how to drive!
