VAG 2 PIN PLUG 1J0973702 CONNECTOR HELP !

Featured Replies

My reverse lights don't work on my 05 Fabia - quite a common fault.

The wires had snapped just past the connector.

According to Skoda Dealer I couldn't buy just the connector, it would require an engine wiring loom to fix the problem

Then I found this from Anglia Postal Parts

Unfortunately it is proving a pig to put together.

Would anyone have any great ideas on how to put it together ??

Put the orange seal down to the bottom of the black plug.

There is a gap at one side of the plug where the purple locking clip goes through. Insert wires, may need to carefully nudge the grey rubber seals down with a tiny screwdriver (take care not to damage the coating on the wires) You should hear/feel the wires click/lock into place.

Through the earlier mentioned gap, insert the locking clip (flat side towards the bottom of the plug) and you'll be able to lock it over

P.S. It's quite shocking a dealer recommended a full loom for that. It's much easier to just remove the damaged pins, fit new ones and attach to the existing loom!

For the benefit of future searchers, it's probably worth noting that a 'ready-to-use' fully assembled version of this connector is also available from the same source angliapostalparts2012 on ebay. Searching the part number 1J0973702 brings up this one currently.

I dare say that VAG/Skoda also sell this version, but I don't know for certain.  Can anyone confirm/deny? Part number different?

Also worth noting if you ever change a set of pads with a warning wire on the cut off and keep the old one as it's the same plug as this.

It's far easier to assemble those if you have the proper terminal insertion tools, they can be quite tricky...

Personally I would have gone to the scrappy and cut one off a car then just spliced them together.

Thanks all for the replies.  I found the images on my ebay history.  After I pressed post I found as Wino found the pre-wired version on ebay, so ordered that as well - hopefully here next week.

Once again thanks all for the reply's - I tried to find the delete topic button, but couldn't find one.

If there's a market for them I might nip to Silverlakes with my 'baggy car parts trousers' :bandit:

I've got loads of the wires cut off brake pads.
