Replacement Tyre Advice :)

Featured Replies

Well my vRS is gonna be needing it first tyre change in about a month or so :(

Just wondering what people would recommend and the sort of price they got them for.

I really dont have a clue what to look for, never had a car long enough before to need to change the tyres :)

Have a look in the reviews section

The following tyres get good reviews (alaphabetical):

Continental SportContact2

Kumho MX

Pirelli P Zero Nero

Toyo Proxes

But you could always read them all and decide :D

For a "rough" idea on prices, try www.mytyres.co.uk

or do a search it's be covered a fair bit. It's all down to personal choice and what you want from a tyre, long life or lots of grip, or maybe somewhere in between.

I have Toyo T1-R on the front and they are fairly good. Wear seems ok but I've only cover 7k on them so far.........maybe I should add a review then

i had sport contact 2 on the car when bought from new, i found these did not last very long at all.

have just replaced front 2 with much cheaper kumho ecsta supra just to see how these compare, got these fitted for

My contact 2's lasted 20K, 95% motorway miles though i have to admit. Now got some random on the front, and kumos at back, only

IMHO the Toyo's (T1-R) offer best all round qualities: great dry grip, wet grip (suprisingly good :D ), wear, price, tyre noise (never really rated that one highly in importance ;) ).

They have a re-inforced side wall which I like. Traction breaks away gradually both in the dry and the wet.

Still to find better...

Falken ze-512 are very good but you eat them! about 15-20k on the front but they are only

I had Firestone Firehawks when I had mine, and they were good, but they were way too soft and only lasted around 10,000 miles. I replaced them with Toyos, which were harder, but as the car is no more, I can't tell you how they wear.

It seems to be all about personal taste, Ive seen some reviews saying a particular tyre last long others saying it wore out quick. It all depends on how you drive. I'm also looking for new front tyres but was going to go with the continentals just because of the name. I'm nervous about going with some of the cheaper brands if they turnm out to be dreadful.

The best tyres for grip and wear I have ever had are Khumo Ecsta's and @

So ermmmm, which tyres would you recommend then?

Had them all, best IMO are ContiSport 11's.............by far actually

Where the hell do you guys get Falkens and Kumhos for

I fitted 225/45/17 Goodyear F1 GSD3's to my Octy Vrs, I have done over 10k on them and they are nothing short of phenominal, tyre wear is comparable to the Conti's I took off with well over 25K on thenm and 3mm of tread.

These tyres have transformed the handling of the car, they are good in all conditions ( apart from snow, alledgedly) wet grip is excellent, dry grip :D

and tyre noise seems to be less than the conti's.

My brother has a MX5 which is supercharged to around the 200bhp mark, he swore by the Yokohama A539's he had until he bought a new set of alloys that came fitted with F1's and he has the same opinion of them, has cured the tale end twitchiness and the car just sticks to the road like glue!

It's all about personal choice, I would recommend these over any trye out there as they perform brilliantly, wear similar to the oem conti's.....oh yeah they look really good as well!! hope this helps, in fact I think I will submit a review on them for all to see!

Ask for Falken ST115 sports tyres...I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed..

Sorry for not saying thanks for the advice sooner, finding it hard to get the time to look at the forum these days :(

Many thanks though :) the advice is much appreciated.

Eagle F1 Gsd-3's - amazing tyres. Grip is superb, slightly soft, but then thats the trade off - they give a good precise feel for the amount of grip left and it might be me, but it seems easier to get the power down with these fitted. Mytyres.co.uk do very good prices for all of the tyres mentioned.

Eagle F1 GSD-3's - top banana :) - just had some for my octy (16")
