Meteor Grey Monte Carlo Estate

Featured Replies

I'm fairly certain the new vrs octy will have this colour. :-)

Yes the MK3 rs octavia has meteor grey

Louisv6......Very smart looking car.  I like it!

I have had my meteor grey vRS for 6 weeks now and it certainly gets a lot of attention.

It brings a smile to people's faces and I like the fact it's a rare colour.

Have to say though ,it's an impossible colour to photograph. Has to been seen in the flesh to be fully appreciated.

Is yours a Fabia VRS? If so, I'd love to see a pic?

Car has been back at the dealers now since Tuesday - they're looking into the pulling-to-the-left issue, and I've been given a Fabia Elegance TSI Estate to trundle around in in the meantime.

Have to say it's a very nice car - the ride is great without sacrificing handling too much (though it's obviously no racer).

Compared to my diesel monte estate:

  • More comfortable ride - softer and more absorbent
  • Seats similarly comfortable, softer, though not as supportive as the Monte which suit my broken back much better
  • I wonder about whether the ride quality is more down to the 16" wheels than the suspension
  • It definitely wallows more through corners. Could be softer anti-roll bars?
  • Engine initially felt puny, but you just have to wind it up more.
  • Engine far quieter and significantly more refined.
  • The torque of the diesel is like night and day, but the petrol isn't slow by any means, you just have to drive it more... angrily to get much out of it. Overtaking on the motorway compares poorly to the diesel.
  • Fuel consumption has been around 47mpg on my normal commute. Compares OK to the 60mpg I'm getting out of the Diesel (fuel costs considered).
  • All in all I'm pleased I chose the diesel for its sheer drivability if nothing else.
  • As for whether I'm pleased I chose the Monte: absolutely because of the seats and colour.
  • I remain unconvinced about the combination of shiny black wheels and shiny black side trim - though possibly only because it makes the already considerable arch gap look bigger.

Hope that helps anyone trying to decide between a monte and regular estate.

Big fan of the montes (have a red hatch ) BUT that colour i just cant get used to. Its different and it wont be too comman on the montes but to me it just looks like the factory primered it and went that will do lol

That's what I thought when I first saw it, but then I saw it on the concept VRS+ and I was sold. In some lights (particularly when it's rainy/murky and it hasn't been washed) it can look... unusual, but when washed and on a sunny day it's a completely different car. My photos don't do it justice, but I can accept it's a pretty divisive colour choice :)

Finally a meteor grey Monte and combi!!! Great choice mate, i love the battle ship grey, always liked it when they had the mk1 TT in a similar colour. Looked really nice kinda semi industrial with class i guess?!

Happy motoring.

Leave it with me, as soon as I've given the car a wash, I'll try and take some photos this weekend !

So, it finally arrived (only took nearly half a year), and I'm pleased to say I like the colour, and am pleased I chose it. Thought I'd post up some pics as I've not seen another grey Monte (plenty of Reactions knocking about), and certainly not one in Estate form.

Haven't driven it much yet, but for those considering the change from VRS to Monte, or from Hatch to Estate (my previous car was a Fab II VRS hatch), I have a few observations:

  • This car handles nicer (note, not grippier, just nicer handling) - the extra weight at the back fixes the deadness you get with the hatch
  • This car is more softly sprung - at least, it certainly feels much more compliant than the VRS ever did. This *could* be down to the fact it's a Diesel.
  • This car (TDI) isn't disappointing to drive. I'm not a slow driver, and the VRS brought out the worst in me, but the diesel engine and manual gearbox combo isn't at all disappointing (which I thought it might be after the VRS). Bags of torque makes it more than comfortable for daily use, and I'm not missing the VRS yet.
  • 35-40mpg just driving around town, not had a chance to drive it on the motorway yet, but the 35-40mpg from town driving certainly bodes well.
  • Seats are comfy (I have a bad back, so seats are important to me), certainly as comfy as the VRS', but they're definitely slightly less bolstered - not a bad thing, particularly if you're slightly wide like me. They're also miles more comfy than the standard seats you get in S/SE/Elegance (imo, of course!)
  • Ride height seems the same/similar.

Should I think of any more, I'll add them here.

General observations regarding the run-out models' minor facelift:

  • New exterior badges font looks good - improvement over the old
  • Interior switches appear to have gained a new font - definitely preferred the old, so a change for the worse imo
  • Steering wheel slightly disappointing compared to the old one, which felt nicer in the hand and looked nicer imo
  • Stalks (indicator, cruise, etc.) seem to be more softly 'padded' when you move them. Definitely feels more premium than the previous car.

That's about all I have to report for now. Here are some crap pictures.

Awesome :-)

Cheers

It really suits the Fabia mk2 , both the vRS and the Monte Carlo.

I do like the black trim you have exclusively on yours

A friend of mine's just bought a Citigo, she loves it!

Good to hear...

Hope you've pointed her towards this site ;)

  • 3 years later...

Any know if the sport suspension is different to the Monte Carlo estate setup? I hear the rear estate has heavier damping.... dealers are pretty usless on this info .....all help welcome cheers

Forget the 'Sports' bit, the Monte Carlo & vRS have slightly shorter springs, nothing sporty about them,

you get shorter after market.  the estate should sit a little nose down.

The rear springs are Monte Carlo estate rear springs different from Monte Carlo hatch rear springs.

(due to the estate being 9 3/4" longer)

I think the diesel and petrol rear springs are the same, the fronts are not, and the Monte Carlo estate rears might not be the same as a Fabia vRS estate rears,

check the numbers for all 3,  petrol & diesel estate and vRS estate.)
