Not to hijack but to add to the above.... would they fit under 16's or would you have to increase wheel size to accommodate?

They will fit fine.

They will also fit under standard 16" wheels.

And also the 16" steels if you have them :)

I have S3 ones and they're the same! :)

Are the calipers actually any different performance wise from the vrs calipers or is it just the carrier size that makes them bigger?

They're a good bit bigger, pad is bigger and most importantly so is the disc.

288 - 312mm :)

Theres a little clearence with the steels, but theres more with the standard alloys.

yeh I know obviously there bigger lol, my question was, are the calipers any better performance wise or just the same? They make them bigger yeh to cool better and stuff but are the actual callipers themselves upgraded

what else would you have to upgrade to run the 312mm breaks? or can you just swap the setup over? (not clued up on breaks haha)

Just re read what you wrote sorry my bad I understand ! Ha

its a hard day at work at work today so my mind is shot  :whew:  basically can you just change disks pads and calipers and your good to go?

All you need is the callipers and carriers and some fresh brake fluid. You can even use your old brake lines like I did when I change my 288's to 312's.

As per the very informative and helpful 312mm pictorial fitting thread on here.

I can vouch for this as I used it :)

I can vouch for it too, those pictures of the first one I carried out on a vRS were taken in 2003.

I am/was aware it was your thread and was just promoting it :)

Did i read somewhere in that thread that this swap only applies to the vrs? what's the difference between the vrs wheel bearing hub and the PD100? i always thought they shared the same brakes...

The 100 brake carriers are part of the hub or something like that. PD100 had bottle tops

You mean the bearing housing? :S  I actually removed mine to replace a bearing, it's a 10 minute job. (i have a little 7 ton press) Is that what you mean? But i don't think that'll be very easy to find...

No the hub itself. On the PD100 the brake carrier is built into/part of the hub, it's no removable. On the PD130 hubs the brake carriers come off, and are changed when upgrading from 288mm to 312mm.

As I've found out myself very recently :( **** you VAG and your stoopid non interchangeable bits n bobs. *scoots back to ebay a hub huntin' :p

Its a shame. In my case i can get the parts but i have a set of 15'' Golf 3 vr6 bbs fitted, i don't think they'd clear those brakes tbh..

No they won't clear 312mm. Will clear 288mm ones just fine.

That is the bearing housing. The hub is the part fitted into the bearing that the disc mounts to.

Yeah, i had a proper look at both parts now. I will probably look into getting a set anyway and fit the 288mm which should improve the braking power quite a bit, i don't want to fit bigger wheels because that will ruin the understated sleeper idea i have for it, the only reason why i fitted these 15's was because i was spinning too much on 195's and needed a bit more rubber, at the moment they suit it pretty well but as i increase the power who knows... i might just have to hunt for another set. thanks for info thought.
