Yamaha R1 hits 299kph failing to chase Mercedes SL 63 AMG [video]

Featured Replies

Bike has a speed limiter ie 300 kph,  Mercs 250 kph limiter clearly removed.

R1 can get their quicker but needs delimiting and sprockets changing to play at these speeds:-

Safe driving :wall:

Speedometer seems to be limited, revs still building up at 299

I'd hate to go that speed in a car let alone on a bike. Scary stuff.

Ridiculous speeds - if you have a crash at those speeds there isn't going to be a lot left in one piece afterwards.

I can possibly understand doing it on an autobahn but on single carriageway with traffic oncoming??? :wall:  Potential closing speed of 350+kph (approx 220mph)

Clearly mainland Europe but not sure which country.

Caught north of 150 mph, 250 kph, in this country and you are probably going to do time in prison.

Could never condone the driving but a pal of mine picked an SL 63 AMG up a few months ago and what a weapon it is.

Still no excuse for the driving.

Organ donation waiting to happen!!!!! :(

The AMG takes over 4 seconds to get to sixty, Bike does it in less than 3.  Even AMG only claim 300 kph for the SL63.

There are much faster bikes ie ZZR1400 but the Japanese limit them to 300 kph electronicaly.

Good god, it's like a pishing contest.

Lee never said it was faster than a bike, just that it was a weapon! :giggle:

Any car putting enough power through 2 tyres to hit 60mph in 4(ish) seconds is going to be very quick once it's rolling.

The bike undertaking the other biker at 270 ish kph was complete madness. The merc driving on what effectively was the hard shoulder towards the end of the clip to allow the bike past was rather stupid too as any debris could have taken either of them out.

I wonder if either are saving for a pension- if they are they might as well cash it in!

They got some balls mind haha! Especially the bloke on the bike. Class vid!

Despite the video and that the SL has AMG status I just do not see the SL as a supercar like the SLS.

Over £110K to buy and other cars, like the GT-R, are tens of thousands cheaper and much quicker acceleration.

You could have a R8 and change.  Do love the engine note of the 63 but it is a fish tail happy car and well overpriced for what it is IMO.
