Poor radio reception

Featured Replies

I think this topic has already been covered. I am getting Q poor and Ant On when the menu is depressed for 10 sec. So thought the problem is most likely to be a faulty amp in the ariel base (apparently a common fault). I've just fitted a new ariel but still no improvement and Q Poor.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what to test next.

Check your connections behind the radio?

I have issues as well, Ant On but **** poor  reception on local radio stations except Radio1 which is perfect.. is this like your issue?

Yes, acidstrato exactly the same problem.

Checked the connections today and seem fine.

The only thing I was thinking was how to test if its a bad lead or a dud head unit.

If the head unit is sending power to the amp and a signal is arriving back, then surely this would display Ant On. Or am I as usual barking up the ong tree?

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

have you got the standard antenna fitted?

I've got a very short stubby one so I thought maybe that was the issue so trying to get a slightly longer one although my old civic type r only had a short one (albeit slightly longer this this) and that was fine

Yes it is the longer one. But I can't see the short one making much difference.

Have you tried to remove the ariel to see if there is any corrosion or moisture underneath?

Does anyone know how to test the coaxial from the head unit to the ariel?

DC resistance test on the cable -one s/c , then there's o/c one end ( and you need to know the capacitance/metre and length of the cable ) and test cable capacitance .( Better quality DVM have this facility ). Then there's things like Pulse echo test the cable with other end oc (looking for cable abnormalities) , or if you know the impedance of the cable( PETS don't come cheap), do a loss/frequency response test form lowest frequency on radio to highest . ( probnlem is that you'd need workshop test kit with correct impedance match , and this is not cheap).  Probably be cheaper to get another length of cable ,and jury rig it to eliminate cable .

DustyBin - im also in kent and finding reception is rubbish. BTW your username doesnt have your first name in it does it?

Thank you. That's great advice. I will give that a try at the weekend.
