Dashboard Cleaning?

Featured Replies

Hi,

What do you use to clean the dashboard? A vacuum cleaner still leaves dust and wiping with a cloth only adds to it!

I use one of those "waxed" sponge applicators...the ones where you rub the sponge over the surface and it cleans and shines it at the same time. A bit like those Kiwi quick shoe shine type things...

Rob.

i find changing my car when it becomes dirty is by far the easiest solution, but sometimes i do use matt dashboard spray... i think its carplan?

Changing my car when the ashtray is full was always the route I took. Obviously I don't smoke in the RS because that just would not be right. It would be like lighting up in church or something...

Those microfibre 'wonder cloth' thingies are good. Wet it then wring it out as much as you possibly can. They are also a good alternative to a chamois leather.

damp cloth.

Like with any bit of car cleaning, make sure the dasboard is cool (no, not the design) and out of the sun before cleaning it. I also find that the matt finish sprays are best as well.

I like those microfibre cloths too!

I quite like to use glass cleaner on the dash (e,g Autoglym) as it leaves it clean and fresh.

Vacuum it first with the hairy brush attatchment, follow by use of VW Quantum interior cleaner (monthly application then weekly dust off after vac)

Keeps it looking new and clean.

Cheers

Andy

What, you're actually meant to clean it?

Better go and have a look at mine :(

Wet cloth is good - some of these sprays can make it too shiny :)

Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care.

I use those Turtle Wax Cockpit Shine wipes. There only about

Uhm... Whatever Jon said... :D

damp cloth followed sometimes by blackening chemical gunk...

I use some stuff called Grooom (could be more or less 'o's). It's an aerosol foaming cleaner that gets into the nooks and crannys. It's especially good round gear lever gaiters. I'd never use anything that made the dash shiny (sorry, Jason). Just reminds me of dodgy used car places.

Cheers,

I seem to remember the manual states a damp cloth for the plastics, however I use cleaner on the dash as it has properties I believe that negate the damaging rays of the sun.

I used to use Autoglym vinyl and rubber car until I started using Quantum interior cleaner. I Find the Quantum product has the edge. I must say that all the Quantum products available from VW and Skoda dealerships etc I have used have been excellent and are not that expensive, best thing is they are approved for use on our cars. I spray a small amount of the cleaner onto a cloth and then wipe over the dash that way it cleans but doesn't go too shiney.

Same as Flyingscot :)

Damp cloth followed sometimes by some "Interior clean n shine"

simoniz do a really good cockpit cleaner not shiny and clens the dash a treat it is also really good at getting off shoe polish fromthe door bins where i scuff my shoes when getting into the car in a tight parking space (i do have size 12 feet):D

Armorall Matt finish is also excellent for the dash to leave an even, non-shiny surface with no cloth marks

Simoniz fan myself -- although make sure the door's open when you spray ! :D

"Interior clean n shine"

Armorall Low Gloss. The absolute best for the dashboard. Streak free and matt finish.

Does that actually clean the dash or just coat it so that it looks as if it has been cleaned?

Denis

There's dirt and dust on the cloth afterwards, so it doesn't make it run and hide in the nooks and crannies ;) ! I've tried loads of stuff for the dash and this seems easiest to apply evenly (spray on the cloth), it doesn't streak, doesn't leave everything shiny shiny, and doesn't smell of acidic lemons.

I use other stuff for the exterior plastics but as long as you get the 'low gloss' version (there are 2 types of Armorall), I'll buy it off you if you don't like it.
