Audi TT-RS Calipers won't fit OEM VRS 18"

Featured Replies

I bought audi tt-rs big calipers with 370mm discs like the photo i attach. Everybody told me including other sellers "yes, it would fit 18" wheels"...CRAP!!! It won't fit mine...i use OEM 18" VRS wheels and need spacers, besides that the caliper scratches inside the wheels...

TTRS-Brake1.jpg

I see on internet and forum many user using these caliper with 18"...

Is there a problem with my wheel?? problem got any damaged from road holes and got inside curves and sratches the caliper?!?!?!?!?!?! or is just the size of the wheels that is not enough??

Any forum user has this caliper set? that might be a good help...

I haven't got anything that big, mine are mere Brembo 6-pot calipers with puny 350mm discs

I run them with 18" TD Pro Race 1.2s with an ET42 offset

I believe standard wheels are ET51, which is probably where the problem lies

yes, they are ET51, but the ET isn't the measure from the bolting holes to the center of the wheel? That i can use spacers, no problem...my problem is that the caliper touches the inside of the wheels all around. did i made my self understand?...?!

If the caliper is touching where the rim is at furthest from the centre, then yes, you have got problems

I thought you may have meant that the caliper fouled the rim on the curvature of the spokes, due to the offset being too small

QUOTE from www.ttforum.co.uk

"We are pleased to tell all you MK2 TT Owners that there is now a new brake kit option on offer!!

As you may well be aware the new TTRS uses a fantastic Brembo front brake set up with massive discs.
The perfect and cost effective way for all you guys out there to get a good brake upgrade with a nice OEM+ Feel to it.

The kit uses a Brembo 4 pot caliper in black with the RS Logo
Huge 370x32mm punched Audi/Brembo Discs
Audi Pads
Audi Lines
Bigger Dust shields and Bolts
Caliper Bolts
Total Kit price - £1522.00 inc vat

The Good news, most wheels will clear these calipers without the need for spacers!! The disc is offset to allow this. Most 18" wheels will clear the setup, 19" are recommended.

Fitting at our Brembo approved workshop would be £86.25 inc vat
A full pressure brake bleed with Millers racing 300 performance fluid would be £49.99

Total kit fitted and bled - £1658.24"

Check the red circles...this is just a google image, not mine! But is there were me wheels touch the caliper...

I can't say I'm surprised they don't fit (I think I warned against going bigger than my recommended size in one of your previous brake threads). Never assume an upgraded OE setup will fit under different wheels. Personally I'd never use spacers and I'd always take the 'should fit under 18's with no issue' with a pinch of salt. Every alloy design is slightly different, not just with offset but the clearance of the inner alloy area and the spoke design - some are deeper where they meet the outer edge of the alloy for instance whist different wheels obviously have different offsets bringing them closer or further away from the hub. If your calipers are sitting so far out on those big disks (why go for such a big/heavy setup if it never goes on track and is just a road car with far lower demands on the brakes?) you only option is to change the brake setup or the alloys.

So it's touching the inside of the spokes?

If so it just means that TT rims have a different design for more calliper clearance than a VRS rim. (which is why the TT forum says they are OK).

You need to change the alloys, TT ones possibly?

Exactly that

If it was the inner rim diameter at fault contact would be constant for the whole circumference, not just at the spokes

yep, it's that...

Yes, it's for road use only. The price i bought this was cheaper than Porsche Caliper + brackets + pads using oem 312mm discs. Believe me, I bought this kit very cheap...

I picked up the Porsche setup for less than £600 so I guess you did well paying less however it looks like its going to cost you a good chunk more to get fitted and working properly. :( My way of looking at your situation and setup is simply that it's over specced and has downsides (high unsprung weight/more expensive consumables) but its your car and your decision of course :)

Does beg the question as to why you need such big stoppers for road use?  Your choice I guess.

I would be looking for an after market set of wheels with better clearance or a refund on your brake kit as they don't look ideal.

i really bought for less, i get complete with discs, pads and calipers for £350...at german ebay!!

or I get 19" or sell the kit and buy another

Yes, that's the option you have. :)

You will have no problem shifting them for £350, I would be tempted for the Golf but do not run 18" wheels, GLWTS

this caliper are by far more better than a porshe boxters 1997 calipers...the pads are almost double size, ans the pistons are bigger. they are both brembo, and the boxster calipers are used since 1997, and these are new calipers.

Some people spend money on wheels, wings, bodykits, etc etc...and keep the crapy brakes! LOL I prefer to have a brakes upgrade over a bodykit...and a cheaper choise in this case :)

It's just a wheels clearance, perhaps will upgrade to 19"

I'll check if my car would take the bigger discs

If it does I'd maybe offer you £350 to stop you losing out :-)

I would seriously wonder what that set up would do to the brake bias personally, my s3 setup is excellent and most consider my brakes too sharp

I bought this setup because it was a bargain!! £350 for this setup is almost a gift :)

I was keen to buy the setup indeed, but this was cheaper...so, why not?!

LOL i didn't knew before bought them LOLOL i saw on internet and some forums that people uses 18" wheel with these calipers...I tought that they would work fine with my wheels also...

Personally I'd disagree with that but that's your view and I have no interest in changing it.

even if they were £50 surely they can't be considered a bargain if:

A, they don't fit your car

B, you have to spend a great deal more to make them work

C, they are inferior to the commonly regarded best value option on several counts.

My cars heavier than yours and runs more power and torque. The Porsche nqsbbk is perfect for it in terms of road use (even VERY hard road use) and I'm using a pretty average pad currently. Even with this setup there is too much of a forward bias when really using them (at three figure speeds). If I stuck your setup on there it'd be far far worse, much more of the time. Plus You'd kill the unsprung weight as I did previously with the 345mm S3 setup. (Half decent 19" alloys will cost you £1000 and increase this issue even further). This porsche setup is so much better its unreal. :)

B)

Perhaps Audi Engenieers should reconsider the use of these RS calipers on Audi cars and change to 312mm with porsche calipers, since they are better in everything
