More power or S4

Featured Replies

Depends on how much money you have' date=' but an S4, V70R, or Monaro would be the order of the day for real performance.

The Octy is a great car, and don't get me wrong, I love front wheel drive, but 350bhp?Through the front wheels? No thanks. It would be a straight line car, no corners or roundabouts anymore.

A 330d would be far too sensible.:thumbdwn:[/quote']

Stuart's Octavia is 4wd.

Stuart,

Pure sleeper value the Skoda will win, well untill everyone see's the dvd's or the AP's ;)

Tough choice, very tough choice.

If I had the cash sitting here and my own garage...I'd be hard pushed to not look at the S4, or Monaro...

That said I'm keeping the Octy...is the S4 4 times the car? Heck possibly, but 30k is a big possibility.

Mind you the Octy will not be without problems once you step over the line of pretty dam good to omg that's silly power.

I'd personally be worried by the haldex unit and gearboxes. It depends on how far your planing on going...it maybe a can of worms, but it maybe a case of the grass is greener on the otherside aswell...

Bank the cash, Westfield hayabusa and a few weekends away with the boss :D

You will never get back the Octy fun value and awe sensation, well not till GM buy Lada.

I have similar reservations about upping the power in the 4x4 past the levels Stuart and I are currently running. I would like an option which gives around 300bhp to 'test the water'. One such kit would be the ATP K03/K04 eliminator which uses a garret turbo but retains the manifold, DP and pipework.

As for your question I'm really not sure but if I were to change, no matter what the stock power is I'd want something with upgrade potential otherwise I'd get bored. For that reason it'd have to be a turbo. Does a used RS4 come within budget?

BTW some folk have dismissed the 330d but that or the 535d could be quite a sleeper debadged and remapped.

535d mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yes please:thumbup:

what you are talking about stuart is what i am starting to save for, no reservations from me. if someone gave me the money i'd do it right now with out thinking about it, i doubt i'll be the first by the time i get the money but i wouldn't mind being first :D

Nahhhhhh You want Audi's new 4.2 TDi lump thats in the A8!! 322Bhp with 479Ib/ft of torque

I think the Haldex can take it but not so sure about the 5 speed box. Yes a TT box could be fitted but that won't be cheap due to all the other bits needed such as driveshafts. The other downside is the ratio's are longer so will have an adverse effect on acceleration.

I would like to see Stuart get some big power from the 4x4 to help push me to do it but I can understand his difficulty in making the decision.

i know that the 5 speed won't take it, paul broke a few with FWD so 4x4 would kill them no sweat. sa bigger better gearbox is on the cards aswell

That's why I'd like a staged kit as going big turbo is gonna be

Lol Pauls broke his gear boxes for many reasons, power alone was not one of them...

Side impacts possibly to all of them (heavy) and a subtle issue of running slicks...and running them hard.

The halxdex will disapate some energy anyway...but over 300 and yourinto new internals anyway so you mayaswell go hog wild and do the box, shafts...there is a limit sadly for when practical and feasible collide.

there is a reason the EVO's need to be serviced every 4k...

not sure if i've hit a limiter in 5th tbh, i have got to over 6k in 5th at an indicated 150ish (about 140mph true) and it didn't want to go anymore

Limiter as in rev limter rather than speed limiter so over 7krpm. Stuart's goes off the clock but I have 160mph clocks. I think you only need the exhaust though to match our major mods, is that right?

as far as i know, i got FMIC, remap, CAI, samco pipes but don't have DP, sports cat or system yet :(

they said it will help the top end more than anything

Main reason I got the exhaust is the old one was broke!

The main benefit for me was the sound! :D

:)

still want to get mine done, did you get the lot or just a cat-back system?

Full turbo back system. Don't get me wrong it has made a noticable difference to performance it just sounds really good as well! It should definetely be your next mod.

is planned tbh, a lot cheaper than a GT30!!!

Decision made, Keeping the Octy, Going to get some prices for various levels of tuning & then decide how far to go but something will be done.

6 speed box plus Quaffe LSD...supplied and fitted will cost approx

Excellent decision mate :)

Lots of people have fast Audi's, you will be driving one of the best Skoda's in the world and flying the flag for Briskoda

and annoying people when you overtake them :D

With 4WD do I get any advantages from the diff ??

I guess not...and I completely forgot about yours being a 4x4. :o

But it's there as a reference...for anyone else. ;)

With 4WD do I get any advantages from the diff ??

A JBS customer recently had one fitted to a TT, he seemed to think it helped from a standing start and it should also help with strengthening the box for the 380bhp conversion he's having.

Do our (4x4) cars have open diffs? If so then the LSD will help you. If not, then no.

Oh, and despite what I said earlier, I'm glad you've made this decision - keep us updated :D
