Superb Combi FL 2.0 tdi DSG6 4x4: order placed

Featured Replies

So, finally paperwork is done and order is placed. Delivery expected on mid Feb.

It will be company car for 3 years period (120.000 km) - and will be used in city as well as for long trips in Europe.

Having in mind price and Co2 limitations I was also considering Volvo V70 D4 (181HP/400 Nm) and BMW 3 Touring 320d xdrive. Both cars appeared to be too expensive with the options I wanted to have. In addition to that Volvo has disadvantage of bad road feel via steering and BMW has a badge which says BMW. Also both cars have small knee room in the back.

So I have chosen Superb Combi with 170 HP diesel and 4x4 with DSG (although I like manual more) in Black Magic with Twister 17' wheels.

On top of the Elegance spec I put:

- airbags in the back

- webasto heater

- sound system

- tinted windows

- electric boot

- kessy

- roof spoiler

- Bolero radio with MDI

- Leather/Alcantara (free of charge)

- 3 spoke multi-functional steering wheel with DSG shift paddles

- hands free system

- nets in the boot plus the one which separates boot space from passenger space

I will post first impressions as soon as it will arrive.

Sounds good! What are the extra airbags?

Those are side airbags for the rear passengers.

I thought the curtain airbags were full length and the extra airbags were for the rear sides (out the seats like the front ones). Its a no brainer option I'd check though.

Sorry for misleading, yes curtain is standard, and those optional are side airbags.

Nice car to come.

I had those rear side airbags as well. If you can afford other extras to me you can afford a bit of safety as well.

Yep, it surprises me that people will pay for a spoiler or something like that but not for safety (airbags/esp).

And I'm looking at a DSG 170 4x4 estate myself, nice choice and black is the best colour for it.

Talking about those optional rear airbags - I put them to the option list as first option. I travel a lot with passengers, so safety it is a must.

Just recently I became little bit confused - are they ok in case of child seats or not? There are no clear opinion in the internet (as usual). But from other hand - would car manufacturer will offer something what is not safe for passengers?

Child seats were not in mind until day before yesterday :)

Yes, I believe they are safe, the same as in the front. Its the forward facing airbags that are not safe, the side ones don't deploy *towards* the occupant like they do.

And congratulations :)

Sounds really good. How does the Webasto compare to the standard heater?

By Webasto I had in mind autonomous heater (which is by Webasto is Skoda as far as I know). You can switch it from you house while car is locked outside. Or you can program the times when it is switching on.

By standard heater for diesel engines I understand the one which heats the coolant faster but only when engine is running.

I have chosen webasto heater for the reason that I do not have garage and sometimes it is quite painful to sit on seats right in the morning, when it was -25C during the night :D

 ...and my Superb AWD is still one month away.

When looking for ours we rejected Volvo and BMW is the same grounds - great minds think alike, or is it fools never differ :-)

I've ordered the same, a 2.0l 170 4x4 DSG estate, elegance in black. Really looking forward to it although I'm waiting for the new reg on 1st March. I'm a little confused as you say you've ordered the elegance but have swopped to the 17" wheels. I'm having the standard 18" Luxon wheels. Why did you swop to a smaller wheel, or have I misunderstood you??

Actually in Lithuania 17' wheels goes as standard for Elegance version. But if it would be 18' as standard - I would change them to 17' anyway, because of road quality here. Also from time to time I drive on gravel roads as well.

My volvo has 18' plus sports suspension. The result during 110k km is 2 alloys had cracks in them and I have to rebalance all 4 of them two times per year. Also the ride is rather harsh.

I'm trying to understand what CO2 limitations are you talking about in Lithuania. How does that impact your car consideration?

The company in which I am working has Co2 regulations for company cars.

Well, got the delivery date: Feb 20th.

Looking at next week's weather forecast (-22C night -15C day) I wish I would have car with autonomous heater...

Congrat's on your new ride, hope you don't fint the wait to hard ... In Sweden we have a saying "The one who waits for something good to come does not wait too long ..." ... and we have -2 and no snow here in the south so it's not too bad even though it is somewhat windy ...

Cheers!

Update: as delivery date approaches, winter tyres were ordered:

Good Year Ultra Grip Ice+ 225/45 r17 94T XL

Also after reading the thread on poor bateries - I have asked the dealer to check the battery condition, especially knowing, that car is parked at the dealers for month (and it was really cold weeks here, night temp close or below -20C).

Today said goodbye to Volvo, took all personal stuff from all the storage compartments, etc.

It was a reliable car (116.000 km in 3 years, only one minor repair in suspension), powerful engine (225 Hp / 460 Nm after re-map), but poor handling and little space on back seats.

Skoda will be delivered this evening. Never driven non-manual gearbox longer than for 5 min, so wish me luck :D

Best of luck with the new one!  I got three years and over 120,000kms from my last Superb with no real issues.  I think you'll be impressed with it!

Thanks.

It's a pity, that we have spring already - no snow to enjoy 4x4. Last year snow stayed until end of April...

Sound like a beauty, best of luck with it.

Let me know if you're ever in Dublin, I'll take you for a pint of Guinness ..!

Cheers,

Rob

Just don't left foot brake! You'll fly through the windscreen! :P Looking forward to seeing some photos.
