Cat vs Citigo

Featured Replies

What a night :(

Cats vs Citigos doesn't end well....

Heres the action...

Parked up to allow the missus to put sugar in her coffee and engine turned off (start/stop)

Car started up, checked all around and nothing.. no people, cats or cars. Set off and applied full lock ready for the swing and there it was..

A BLACK CAT running in front of my car

Swerved to miss it, mounted the high kerb, and rolled to a stop to see what the crunch was..

Well the missus said it was dripping, I looked at it was more than dripping.... approx 4 litres of engine oil gusng out.

Also found a plastic guard broken off...

So, phone call to assistance to arrange recovery and then the wait... 20 mins later 1 recovery truck and a 35 mile trip back home and car to the dealership awaiting report...

No pictures as was slighty niffed off, but im sure you can imgaine the look on my face, the state of the floor and a citigo left hopeless..

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Nightmare fella :(

I've been over higher speed bumps than this kerb but the kerb was a 90 degree kerb and rolling speed of about 5mph.. I think the cover took the damage and caused the plug to come out.... :(

Hope it's nothing more that mate, and you get her back quick

Sorry to here of your troubles. At leat the missus, you and the cat are OK? I take it the Citysafe (if fitted) did/would not work as the cat was to low to the ground

I'd think cats are too small to be picked up by Citysafe.

But it would be interesting to know how large an object needs to be, to trigger the Citysafe.

Maybe test it with small children to begin with....

No citysafe fitted, plus don't think it would pick it up as it was dark and the cat was black.

Update on the car.... Damage found to o/s arm and subframe. More expense that I didn't need :(

Insurance job I guess ? Hope it's fixed soon.

Lots of deer incidents lately round here and the advice is not to swerve. Hit the animal as square on as possible to avoid killing yourself.

Yep, you're more likely (as happened) to do more damage to yourself, your car and others if you try and avoid something like that, particularly small things like cats and dogs. If its not a person, you hit the softest thing.

Sorry and im prepared for the backlash from cat owners but that cat would have been roadkill. No way im damaging my car for a cat. A dog yes but not a feral wild cat thats just a general annoyance to everyone other than its owner who i doubt sees it from one week to the next. Its getting like a plague.

What if it's a stray dog ? How do you know it was a feral wild cat (in which case would it have an owner) ?? Perhaps Skoda should fit pet microchip readers next as part of the front assist ;)

I cant stand cat's myself...

But I'd still try and avoid running one over if possible.

Probably instinct made him swerve more than anything

Interesting advice.

Friends of mine hit a cow square on many years ago.

Wrote the car off and nearly killed both of them.

I don't think I could resist swerving.

Maybe interweb legend, but I'm sure somebody had an accident due to a rabbit bone; from impact, then shredding some belt...

Maybe it's the time of year, or the compactness of the citigo. I've almost hit 2 in this last week myself...

;) dam the lack of umph when you need it most!

Ouch - really feel for you mate. I hit a pheasant full-on once, but nowhere near the damage you describe.

I feel for you mate, you must be gutted. I hit a flying rat (pigeon) in my felicia when nearly new, it busted the nice chrome grill and dented the radiator  :@ but on a lighter note my son saw the blasted thing sticking out of the grill and said is dead yet dad? to which i replied if its not, it soon will be!!!!!!!!

Completely gutted... looking around £650 of work. Luckily the wheel and tyre is fine, just the suspension that took the force.

I know people say they would have gone for the softest thing but an instant reaction isn't always the best thing. I can only assume the cat got scared and ran.

That's bad luck on you, cats well they always pop out of nowhere don't they.

I actually braked for a field mouse on Saturday on my way back from Wiltshire. How did I see that? I caught it in my headlights when pulling away from some roadworks at around 15mph, nothing behind me at the time. It's just a natural reaction when you see any animal, bird etc, trouble is the car coming the other way got it I think   :wall:

Where's the oil coming from?
