Question on Adaptive Cruise Control ACC?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Im on the verge of ordering a vRS Estate TSI DSG, but i've been looking through all the forums, the online car Configurator and the brochure, and it doesn't look like the vRS comes with the ACC as an option,  the online Configurator only has Cruise control as a £180 option, but i've seen the ACC version somewhere for £600? ish.

Am i missing something as I've seen lots of people on here showing their car builds and lots of you have ACC?

Thanks for any help!

Regards,

Anthony.

ACC was dropped as an option due to problems with supply of parts

It's a real shame as it's a bloody good option to have

Thats a bit of a downer, I wonder if it will make a re-appearance as some point.

I think Cruise control is a must, and if theres one thing i hate, its having to constantly adjust/cancel and re-engage it when people get in front of you :)

Thanks for the reply TonyD

What TonyD said and it was a £750 option. Is it worth having? I remain to be convinced, especially as I barely turn it on as;

It does not come off the power early enough

As it does not come of the power I get the feeling it starts to brake for you as it has now got too close to the car in front

It affects fuel consumption, and not in a good way

Beware crisp packets :)

The last point was unfortunate but a crisp packet blowing across the road did trigger the ACC/Front Assist momentarily. The Front Assist though is always active (unless you specifically turn it off) and I'd love to see Skoda/VAG replicate the Ford ad to give me confidence it will actually work.

Never thought crisp packets could be a hazard! sounds a bit iffy.

Its not a deal breaker for me, its just on those very long trips (250+ miles) i would of liked it for comfort factor.

Ill just have to make do with normal cruise! :)

To say the least I was a little shocked, there was not another car on the road, the weather was clear and dry although very windy. I had seen the crisp packet blowing across the road and as it passed in front of the car it almost stood on its nose as the brakes were applied and the double red chevron appeared in the Maxi Dot. Don't get me wrong, I like technology and hence why I specced the ACC, although in hindsight, I would have quite happily specced the standard cruise and maybe spent the difference on something else.

I have tried it on my wifes Golf and I liked it. I need longer with it, had to set the distance further than the default, but I wish it was on my car.

I'd insist on using it for the 249 mile journey's too! ;-)

Of even the 150..... :)

Oh well! i was looking forward to having it, id expect this feature will come as standard on a lot of cars in a few years, so perhaps on the next one !

I have not had the crisp packet effect with the FA / ACC on my car and I can see how worried I would be if it happened to me.

Yes cruise is very useful for long journeys, ACC and DSG in stop start town traffic is a real help.  The car not only slows down and accelerates with the cars in front it comes to a stop and pulls away.

I have been so impressed with ACC and DSG that I cannot see me going back to a manual car again unless I have to.

Just think how many times you have been on the road / motorway and something as simple as a carrier bag is blown across your path. Bet it certainly wakes you up when the car just slams the anchors on !

To be fair, I think the ACC got a reflection off the foil packaging and to date it is the only piece of detritus on the road so far to have caused the car to react like this.

I also got a wet leaf stuck on the unit whilst driving once so it alerted me to the fact that it was now not functioning correctly as the signal was being blocked (via the Maxi Dot) and turned itself off.

I should note, that in the time I have used the ACC these are the only two instances I have come across and although I have had the car less than three months I have managed to put on over 5000 miles so far.

I had ACC on my previous Superb's and i really miss it especially on the Long Drive from Bielefeld (Germany) to Calais Or Dunkirk. Funny enough Never got to use it much whilst in the UK (Handy for the Miles and Miles of 50mph avarage zones) Roads to congested Most of the time. When i Order my New One next Year hopefully it will be an Option.

It is either standard or optional equipment depending on the variant on both the Audi A3 and the VW Golf. Shows where Skoda fits in the VAG priority list.....but then again the really useful heated windscreen isn't available on any other VAG product as far as I am aware.

I'm lucky that ACC was still available when I ordered my vrs estate. It's much more useable than the standard I had on my mark II even with my manual box. I do a lot of motorway way miles

I have it on my VRS TSI DSG and I love it. Could use some shorter approach distances at speed I think. It's happened to me a couple of times as on the shortest distance to the car in front, the gap is quite large. This makes the driver in front not think that you actually want to over take and they won't move to the other lane, so I had to accelerate myself to get that little bit closer...

It's extremely relaxing to cross an entire motorway without touching the pedals and just take care of steering.

I added cruise control as an option for my pending vRS, but I'm starting to wonder why.  If you're buying the vRS, presumably it's because you enjoy driving, yet cruise control takes away a lot of the fun of having a 2 litre lump under the bonnet...  I get the mpg/laziness factor, I'm just not sure I'll ever use it....

But how much fun can you have sat on the motorway at 80mph?.... I'd prefer to be comfortable and relaxed.

Less fun than at 144mph?!

Less fun than at 144mph?!

That will be on the Autobahns then....

Because the VRS can be an excellent cruiser, that's why! I'm not racing my way everywhere I go...  :dull:

I don't get this, I've been specing up an A3 and I just don't see how you could justify the extra money over normal cruise control.

You're still going to want to keep your eye on the road and quite frankly if you can't adapt the cruise yourself, then the conditions are probably such that you shouldn't be using cruise.

Just my opinion and all, but personally I don't see it.

I should add that I've had cruise on the MK1 and the MK II Octy, but am comparing this to the A3 system and current passat system, with a third stalk for cruise.

how much is it on the a3?

When info was sparse I quite fancied lane assist (£300) but didn't know that acc included it for the £750. When I found out it meant that effectively the acc cost £260 over standard cruise so I went for it.

After also having cruise on the Mkii and mkii's I still stand by what I said in its one if the best options I've ever spec'd

On the previous cars (and living with north wales plod) I was a heavy user of cruise keeping to the limits where necessary but always found it a pain how the car would run away over the limit downhill. On the acc it brakes for you so always keeps you at the speed you've set. You can't take your eyes off the road as you'd soon crash as it doesn't register parked or stopped cars!

Tbh I probably wouldn't spec it without dsg as the traffic and stop start function is really handy when you don't gave to change gear.

It's also very handy in bad weather or the dark as when the distance is set correctly the radar can pickup speed changes far better than my eyes can when judging a small car in the distance decelerating.

Apart from all that it's just really handy where I live and the conditions I drive under. It won't suit everyone as lots don't use cruise think it's the devils work!

@sworral, I guess you meant that Front Assist is included with ACC? Lane Assist uses the camera by the rearview mirror, not the radar in the front bumper.
