Cruise control

Featured Replies

On the VW mk5 golf you can add cruise control by getting the VW switch fitted and then having it programed at a VAG dealer,is this possible on a  2003 1.9TDI Elegance ?

thanks

John

Yes, do a search... Don't get it done by a dealer unless the price is right. There used to be a register or similar of who to ask in parts of the country.

"Basic" fabias may not have a capable convenience unit, the Elegance model should be OK, I think. Again, there is at least one thread documenting that...Maybe in technical guides...

Cruise control, heated seats. The kind of things you think you desperately need when you don't have them but rarely use once you do.

Don't get me wrong, great for any straight, constant travelling, occasionally for speed zones, but not something I constantly use. I wouldn't say don't get them but unless you travel to work like I USED to (major A road and motorways, very straight, very boring) it won't really get full use anyway.

i use my heated seats everyday and my cruise control literally whenever I can, it's defiantely a worthwhile upgrade so id say go ahead with it :)

Headet seat and cold cold mornings = epic ! Mine is set at 3 now till February haha

i thought it was if u had heated mirrors or a few other things then you can have cruise ...

yeah i was like that^^^ thought i needed cruise nowcant remember last time i used itas its pretty poor .... hit a hill on motorway speed drops to about 60ish then its full throttle back up to 70

The Mrs Octavia has it, I bloody love it!

you do realise that if your car can't hold a speed up a hill whilst cruise control is set that means your maf is on it's way out don't you.... See here, this is how I diagnosed mine lol

That's what everyone who hasn't got them says!  :giggle:

My heated seats get used every morning in the winter.....it's brilliant as the 1.9PD doesn't produce useful heat for miles. My cruise control is never off.....I use it all the time......i'd even use it reversing off my drive if It'd let me!

I love the heated seats had them on today .

I use the cruise all the time in my wife's car ,also when driving in France and all over Europe.

Done a search and its been done loads of time so will be getting it sorted soon .

Cruise control is awesome

Awesome gti fit it for £120 all in iirc

Can't disagree more TBH

I've got cruise since I had the car. It has been handy but putting it on is the "lazy" option.

Most of my driving now is really slow, A and mainly B roads when I get the chance to actually open up the car do you think I want to be stuck with the cruise on? You can bloody bet not !

I've been obsessed about heated seats but realising that a lot of threads discuss a first feeling with them on of "I've wet myself" type of responses, couples with the fact I just have found it hasn't been that cold to warrant further investigation on this.

It's just not that cold ! When it gets to bloody proper winter I may disagree but there hasn't really been a day that makes the difference yet. Bunch of poofs lol, May change my tune on that if it gets subzero though lol

Within about 5 minutes the car is already warm and then by which time the seats are warm too. I think have really wrap around seats like Recaros helps, you really are "IN" the seats. I'm in no hurry to do the heated seats right now, I've got the cruise and don't use it.

Nonsense

Try driving on the mway for a good 3 hours and your right leg starts to ache...

Used my cruise control every time in travel to Essex to see my parents. It's about 4-4 1/2 hours so it's well worth it.

To the ring it's a godsend.

ive never driven in anything new transits etc .... with cruise that dont slow down initially when you hit an incline the fabia is the only one that then goes flat out back to 70 ( no trouble holding it there once its adjusted its self)

So what you are saying is you spend 3 hours+ on a motorway so cruise must be right for everyone then ?

Not what I was saying, I was offering an alternative standpoint like myself where I rarely need, or want to use the cruise control. Maybe slightly useful for speed limit areas, but thats it.

By definition how much you need it is defined by the kind of journeys you do, if its frequently B roads and rarely motorways then whats the point. You could easily get better VFM spending that money elsewhere, e.g. alloys, remap.

It really is a godsend

I had it installed on my leon fr tdi, my new bmw doesnt have it and i do miss it dearly

I do not do much motorway driving at all, but its just nice say once a month if you want to head to a city for shopping. Or you have to go to the airport etc.

There is a time everyone will find it handy!

Cruise control and one touch indicators on an mway are awesome and you take them for granted until you no longer have them

And not everyone is into alloys and remaps :)

i used the cruise contol lots on my fabia when im driving on motorway, i would use my heated seats as well if i had them but its deffo down to personal preference and driving style. anyway back to OP, ive seen kits on ebay or 70-120 quid for the stalk, then as stated need it coding in find someone local with vcds, have a look on other VAG forums like mk5golfgti edition38 if no one on here has it thats local to you, ive got it but im bolton so no use to you, sorry!

I use cruise control alot on motorways.
