First Thoughts on my VRS Estate TSI

Featured Replies

Thank you, when I saw your post Oldfellah I realized I was not the only one.

I have the same problem with my Rapid, a large shiny silver L shape tick appears in the both nearside and offside door windows exactly where you look at the door mirrors.  As looking in these mirrors is an action you do automatically it is quite a problem as you have to change focus to look through the silver reflection.

Experiment shows me that the reflection is actually from the chrome trim arround the air vents.  I'm still toying with options, the ideal would be to replace the chrome bezel with a black one found on other spec. cars, but I would not want the dashboard taken apart as there are no marks or squeaks as it is now.  Second is the carefull application of some black tape cut to shape but I suspect it would be difficult to do this without making it look a bodge.  It would be interesting to know if Oldfellah and I are the only ones to see this and especially if anybody has solved it.

Checkout my thread of a few weeks ago . It was considered a joke by most.

Unfortunately, like you I considered it an issue!!

I am assuming this is a humerous posting

It might just be real!!

Things which aren't "right" annoy me, and this was one of them. I'm sure plenty of folk would live with it and prefer to have smart chrome finishers. I'll live with black tape and being able to see in my mirrors. Sad maybe, but I'm a happy bunny.

I wish I'd ordered a petrol now... :(

Found this while on a totally different thread. Don't forget your fuel consumption is much lower than the TSI, which has to be some compensation.

Tsi is a peach of an engine especially if fuel economy is not a priority.

Changing the subject slightly, I realised today there is no noise suppression material under the bonnet of my car although there are what seem like catches in the metalwork to accept a preformed mat. This is an early vRS TSI estate/combi (registered last July) which I find to be a very quiet car. (It helps that it has no synthetic noise generator.) As a matter of interest, do other owners - vRS or otherwise - have noise insulation mats under their bonnets or not?

The TSi's dont have insulation, the TDi's do...probably becuase the TDi needs it more. Its a Skoda cost saving exercise.....much like not having a gas strut on the bonnet of a 20-odd grand car is a bit pants.

As above, TDI have the foam to help suppress the noise, but the TSI is fine without it. Petrol engines also radiate much more heat, so not having the insulation helps keep temps down in the summer.

Thanks both very much. At least I don't feel singled out for neglect now! The car has to have some indicator of its budget origins I guess. It's certainly more car for the money than many.

Gah ... stop tempting me with the TSi ... half undecided now if I should forego the MPG concerns and change my TDi order to the petrol. Even knowing full well that I would make the cost difference up in a year and be quids in from then on in !

Better fuel economy than my TSI, I get 26mpg with a mix of town driving and duel carriageways. On a 200 mile motorway trip I get around 35.

3000 miles in I had hoped it would get better, not overly fussed though.

Picked up our TSI manual on Friday. Excellent engine and gearbox but I am struggling with the feeling of lane assist. Also not that keen on the sound in sport mode it just sounds a bit false so I can see me unplugging it (where is the connector?) Other than that love it. I can get a better driving position than my Merc and the power delivery is great all across the rev range.

However wife got home today to tell my she had kerbed the alloy! Grrrrrrr not even done 200 miles in it and already needs a wheel repair.

try fitting a set of ALLOYGATORS
