VRS CR Lowering Springs

Featured Replies

Hi All

The wife is still on about lowering the VRS. Its a 2.0 CR 2010 on 47,000 miles.

I had a search and it is still a bit confusing as the VRS doesnt seem to lower as much as other models as it is already slightly lower.

I am really looking for Eibach and around a 20mm drop. Also wanted to keep the original struts.

What do I need. Can someone give a part number?

Will I be ok utilising the original struts? If not, What do I need?

These Eibach springs lower by 20 mm on the front and 20 mm on the rear

eibachs are great and will work with the oe dampers but the drop is not significant - more like 15mm in my experience. other springs (e.g. H&R) will go lower but you'd be better to swap the dampers to something more suitable if you go that route.

So Eibachs on original struts and a RARB should be fine???

Just want it to be a wee bit better on the corners.

What struts if I am going to change them?

Bilstein if you can afford it, I've got a Bilstein B12 Eibach kit ready and waiting to fit to mine, got a bargain on eBay for a B12 kit £231 with Bilstein springs so I sold the springs for £80 and bought some Eibachs for £125, I can't wait to get them on the car. Your looking at about £650 for a B12 kit from a reputable seller though!

I thought the B12 kit came with Eibachs already? PUzzled.

Says here it uses Eibach pro springs..?

Hi where did you get the ebach springs for £125?

Cheers for the info guys.

Dont think I want to go to the expense of Bilstiens at the moment. Just the Eibachs and possibly a rarb.

Wheres the best place to get the springs?

Keep in mind, that although the springs will be fine with the OE shocks they will fail quicker than on the original springs. The reason for this is that lowering the car will mean the shock absorbers using parts of their rods that has previously been exposed to dirt / salt and other road grime. This grime when rubbed against the internal seals of the shock absorber will eventually lead to failure of the shock absorber seals.

Personally i wouldn't just put springs on the car - if you're going to do it, do it properly and put on the best you can afford, and if you can't afford to do it properly then do nothing.

thanks i was hoping it was in the uk, iv found some 20mm ones for £100 plus £20  postage from Germany, iv had golf 5 40mm drop with shorten shocks ,coilovers and iv just gone back to standard good buy of here, now iv heard a lot about eibach . Do they do a better job than say apex, spax ect. Im thinking of a 20mm drop as i want to keep the ride qualty any in -put would be great

I'd agree with this, I ran mine with Eibach lowered springs and standard shocks for a year or so and the ride was really crashy and unrefined. went with Bilstein dampers and the transformation is huge, ride feels so much more controlled and smoother, much more planted in high speed corners too. I fitted a whiteline RARB recently and that helped a lot but I'd buy the springs and dampers before the springs and RARB

So what's the script with the B12, B14 etc

What are the right ones for a 2010 VRS CR hatch?

I only want an actual drop of 20 - 25mm.

Nearly 700 quid is a bit more than I wanted to shell out but is something I will certainly consider.

Are they easy to fit?

I have had eibachs on standard dampers for about 60k and 3 years with no issues. The ride is not much different to oem springs but cornering and looks are improved.

If you do change springs suggest you replace the top mounts too and get 4 wheel alignment check@ £70.00.

Nothing else needs to be changed.

Wouldn't really agree with this, I had an Eibach Pro Kit on my '04 Accord with standard shocks for 15k miles with no issues whatsoever and the car was great to drive, even on 18 inch alloys. Funnily enough I met the new owner the day I bought the VRS and he hasn't had any issues with the springs or shocks in his year of ownership.

Maybe for some people, the best they can afford is an Eibach Pro Kit? I'm not having a go, just my opinion on this.

I'm looking into lowering my VRS now too, just can't decide whether to go with Eibach's alone or a H&R cup kit. I'm a bit worried that 20mm drop isn't going to be enough?

iv had all sorts from golf 5 40mm drop and shortened shocks to a coil over kits after going back to standard iv looked for a 20mm drop on eibach springs how ever 20mm not enough but wanting to keep the ride quality im looking to drop it 30mm on eibach springs from Germany and standard shocks as they have only covered 2000 miles ill post pics once done. All i have to do is save for a eibach front and rear anti roll bar im hoping that sort the body roll out.

I may be wrong but I didn't think you could get 30mm Eibach springs? The Pro Kit, which you already had, normally drops a car by 30-35mm but because the VRS is 15mm lower from the factory, the Pro Kit (30-35mm drop) only drops it 15-20mm.

Unless you mean the Sportline kit which gives a 50mm drop normally, that would then give the VRS a 35mm drop. But, I don't think theres a Sportline kit for the VRS?

Got a link for whatever springs you're going to be fitting?

Which leads me to my next question for everyone.... If a 50mm spring only drops a VRS by 35mm is it not the same as fitting a Pro Kit to any other car on OEM shocks? Surely Skoda would have allowed for their 15mm drop when deciding on which shocks to fit? Will an extra 35mm really put them under pressure?

Like I said, 30-35mm drop is really only like putting a Pro Kit on any other car with OE shocks!

The H&R kit advertises a bigger drop but I am yet to see a picture of a Octavia with these fitted

One of the other Irish guys mark_eire had them fitted to his, there's a picture floating around somewhere.
