Youve not offended me. But youve just offended my new car!!

Although im starting to wonder if someone stuck a different suspension on it. In fact whther they put suspension on at all.

Alot of comment about the stiff suspension on the Elegance, have you all got it in sports mode?

I run it in normal mode all the time and haven't noticed an issue yet, must run it over a big pot hole at 40mph and see what happens!

  • Having read through the thread, I think we have learned the following:   1. It is ok to buy/own a VRS as it based on personal choice 2. It is ok to buy/own any other version of the Octavia as it is

  • It's the one that comes with a better spec as standard

  • Alternatively, buy a VRS...that should also fix the problem. In all seriousness, I think it's expected that more VRS stuff is discussed on here. The buyers of these cars are more likely to be petrol

The modes have to influence on the suspension.

No Octavia as far as I am aware has adaptive suspension, so it is not possible to alter suspension firmness. You've either got standard or sports suspension, depending on model or options chosen.

I can't have been listening to the salesman properly when he took me through the different modes during car handover. I thought he said sport mode improved throttle and steering response and stiffened the suspension. I must have imagined the latter.

Not that it will make any difference to me as I am very unlikely to take it out of normal mode.

Salesmen are salesmen - and some appear to have surprisingly poor product knowledge, so they may well have told you that. This applies to most car marques, not just Skoda. I'm very happy with the standard suspension on my Octavia, despite all the hype about the multi link suspension having driven the Audi A3 with it there is negligible difference IMO. I leave the drive selection in Normal mode all the time, I've tried the various modes, unless you have DSG where the shift programmes are altered to me it's just a gimmick.

Most of UK's roads are rough these days....

Tell me about it, hence opting for rough road suspension on our 4x4 order.

Gives me an extra 15mm to fall into a pot hole :giggle:

The main benefit of the mode selection for me is that you can use the individual mode to firm up the steering without having to leave it in full sport mode, I find that in normal mode, the steering is too light on the motorway.

I like the mode selection on the vrs.

Personally, might be a placebo :), but I find I'm far more likely to pootle along behind people in Eco than sport, sport seems to egg me on.

I switch between individual (everything Eco expect afs lights on fast) and sport depending on the road and my mood.

Tell me about it. Seems im using the mode selection for exactly the same reason as yourself.

I just wish all motorways had the lovely smooth tarmac. Some have very rough and noisy tarmac.

Anyway, i think ive worked out what the Octy hates the most. Concrete motorway. There are stil the odd bits to be found. The joins in the concrete is where the stiff suspension shows itself up, to such an extent I start getting a headache. Most cars can absorb the joins. But the Octy struggles.

It has however become noticeably better as the car does more miles.

Stick with it matey, mines softened up enough now after 7 months and 13k miles so that it's only the couple of niggly trim rattles that bother me more than the ride quality, lol, so glad I opted for standard springs but sometimes wish I'd stuck with standard rims, but I do love my Golus 18" rims so much that I have religiously cleaned them every week including inner rim as the gap between spokes is plenty wide enough for my hands to fit between, they still look like they just left the showroom!

Yes ive no doubt the suspension will get better.

Ive got the standard wheels on. Ive no need for the larger ones. Will no doubt just harm the ride quality.

Thankfully my trim seems solid. No rattles. The interior really being the plus point of the car. Simple to use, but a very nioce interior. Solidly built.

Don't get me wrong, the interior is ok, just not as solid as my Superb II was, it does seem to be worse on cold mornings and settles down once the cabin is warm, but there is definitely something rattling inside my steering column, already been back to dealer once for that early on, might be the same problem recurring but finding myself more prone to live with it cos there is more important stuff in life than worrying about a trim rattle. Perhaps it's a price you pay for being one of the early birds, that they have sorted as production ramps up, and at least it gives me the excuse to turn up the volume on the Amundsen!

That reminds me. Can you increase or decrease the bass settings on the Amundsen? Sound can be a little tinny at times.

Yes, there are base, middle and treble settings, I tend to lower the middle but keep base and treble higher which seems to suit my taste for rock! Also, tend to fade sound towards the rear as the rear speakers are larger than the fronts so you get a better depth of sound as it's further away if you know what I mean?

Cool beans. Cheers. Will look through the manual then give it a go later.

Now is this good rock or bad rock? ;)

All rock is good, but some is better! Mainly bands who were around in the 80s, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Metallica, Magnum, Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, other good bands are available

Sheffield - the home of Spandex and Big Hair in the 80's :-)

I'm with JJ, can't beat a bit of Dire Straits, The Eagles and especially Fleetwood Mac. Lindsay Buckingham the most underrated guitarist ever.
