February Track Day @ Oulton Park Friday 21st

Featured Replies

It would need to be pretty bad for them to call it off.  I've been at Cadwell when the track has been partially frozen but they did their best and the day went ahead with a big warning to take it easy in that section....

I think the only time I have had a day cancelled (at Cadwell too) was when their was several inches of snow.  I heard a rumour of "normal" weather coming in next week, so fingers crossed.

  • I think so, after replacing the front bush again, changing top mounts, replacing subframe and getting the wheel alignment done 3 times it seems to be "ok" at the moment. Sadly the camber is not as mu

  • I got my RS-R's yesterday   They make damn good dining room table ornaments lol

Doesn't look too bad, sunshine and showers, but it is nearly a week away.

Ok just looking at the timetable:

07:30 Signing On

08:30 Briefing

09:00 Track Time Begins

12:00 Lunch

13:00 Track Time Restarts

16:00 Track Time Ends

As Oulton is just over 2 hours away there is no chance I will be there for 7.30am, i'm just wondering do I have to sign on before the 8.30 briefing (at Combe you can do the briefing first and then sign-on, also if you miss the briefing at Combe (due to traffic etc) they will do another with you when you get there, do MSV do the same ?

You can sign on any time in that hour before the briefing, likely after as well.

They will do you a separate briefing if you don't make it for that time.

Thats good then.

I don't fancy leaving at 5.30am as i'll be fooked by lunchtime otherwise and end up going to sleep on the drive home :giggle:

To bring slicks, or not to bring slicks, that is the question!

Whether tis nobler in the mind to leave slicks at home

and suffer the wrath of Oulton Park in the wet!

Just thought - Do we have use of at least 1 garage?  I am thinking more for just storing stuff out the rain, than somewhere to park.

I'm gonna take mine anyway (even thinking of fitting them and driving up as I think the fronts are still just legal even though they have only done 2 sessions of Combe).

R888's are fine in the rain (just need heat in them) so in theory the K70a's should be fine too.

I will have Federals on and no spare wheels at all! After fitting the Brembo's I can't use my old wheels

So come rain or shine (and everything in between) I will be using the 595's shouldn't be too bad as AWD will help if it is wet  ;)

5mm spacers should help with getting other wheels to fit.

5mm might be too close, the TD Pro Race 3's just clear the calliper by a gnats **** hair!

595's, wet or dry should be ok I am sure

5mm was plenty to get the standard octy spiders to clear.

5mm was also enough to get 18x8 RS4 reps to clear.

I may drive up on my Kuhmos, just pack a couple of spares in case I kill one axle of all tread....

Jack will be in the garage Jason  ;)

  I sort of want to avoid any major mechanical needs at this one, so we shall see.  I may drive up with the wheels in the boot, as I know driving on semi slicks kills the fuel economy :D

I will be filling the Yeti with bits and bobs so it can be the service vehicle and the Golf will travel empty even though it has NO fuel economy  :giggle:

let us know how the RSR's go if it rains james ;)

Will do sharky, however my opinion might be a bit skewed as I am hardly going to light them up with all four being driven.

Weather is not looking too bad, not wanting to curse anything!!

Check your emails, you have information regarding tomorrows event. Also I notice a few garages are available so i will try and get there early to stake a claim on it!

Yeh thats what I had in mind, and also somewhere to swap my driveshafts over if they fail again :giggle:

Driveshafts! Be smooth with your car, smooth = Fast  rough = a tow truck

It's the brakes putting too much heat into the discs and it dispersing through the cv joint, thus melting the cv boot which then detaches and lets the grease go everywhere, and then within a lap the cv joint overheats and fails.

Only happened twice so far, but I have since added some brake cooling ducts and switched to some less aggressive brake pads (ds3000's) :giggle:

Don't be spreading your dirty slippy grease on the corners Cossie, could be catastrophic!!

I will be interested to see your ducting as this is something I was going to fit to the Golf but after upgrading to the 4 pot callipers I am going to see how they go without ducting.
