vrs pas still not working any help

Featured Replies

Hi everyone a little bit of help needed

I have recently purchased a 2004 skoda fabia vrs with the power steering not working.

I have tried various things to sort the problem but with no luck, this is what I have tried so far.

replaced alternator as that had failed also replaced pulley at same time

cleaned earth wires

checked fuses for cracks

battery is fine tried 2 different ones

repaired BLUE load wire from alternator

checked and there is power to the pump

STILL NO POWER STEERING

don't know if this helps but when I brought the car the previous owner (CLOWN)

had hand braked the car into a kerb firing the passenger seat belt and passenger seat airbag could this have logged a crash signal hence the reason the car has no power steering or would these 2 not be related

thanks in advance for any help regards carl

Topic moved to fabia section

It could be related to the steering angle sensor on the steering column not working properly.

not entirely sure if there's a fuse for it but have you checked the fuses on the battery?

Edit, I see you did.

Silly question, but what about the power steering fluid reservoir? Is it filled up?

firstly thanks for the replies ,fluid level fine so ruled out a possible leak , all fuses are fine.

im still wondering if the ecu has recorded a crash signal and therefore disableing tha PAS what you think?

I have ordered a genuine seat belt so I will replace that when it comes I have also ordered a vag com lead to read faults so fingers crossed

as for the steering angle sensor I will have a look today to see which 1 is fitted to my car

however I have been lead to believe that the vrs model came with the better one as standard NOT TO SAY ITS NOT DEAD I know so hopefully ill be able to see in vag com

Fletcher is a great name !!!!

right quick update vag com came today

I read all the fault codes and it seems that the power steering ecu and the airbag ecu had both stored crash data from when previous owner hit kerb

cleared all faults and hey presto steering back alive.....just a stuck rear door now any ideas on getting old lock out

Result!  I had a crash signal on a 2nd hand module and was able to clear it and all was good.

As for the door, I think you might have to rip the doorcard off somehow, and grapple with the lock from the inside.

Trying to recall the arrangement. I think it should be possible to remove the door card intact. Though my experience with the trim clips (plastic bullet things) is that they're heroically difficult to pop even when you've got full access. Definitely needs a selection of trim pullers and pry bars to do it with minimum damage.

As for the old lock. have seen people have success with direct connection to operate the lock after figuring out the wiring. People drilling out the lock casing, then manipulating the gears by hand... And people smashing it to bit to remove.
