Metal Grey?

Featured Replies

I went for my Race Blue on mine. I think it looks great, and a normal Norwegian carpark could easily be named 50 shades of grey.

But I do think metal grey looks awesome.

I chose Race blue also, because of the same reason.

Just go to any large car park and look around, it'll be full of drab colours, drab greys, drab browns, even some of the reds look drab, and as for the current ranges of beige that Pug/Citroen are producing  .

That's where the VRS colours shine (no pun intended), Carrida red, Race blue, Sprint yellow, bright white, even the metallic grey pops with the metal flake paint (my Sapphire Cosworth was Flint grey which is very similar).

  • Red, it matches the brakes and rear light cluster I would say having a popular colour can make a re-sale easier, you probably won't get any of that £500 back your right but it's also about buying what

  • another metal grey to the gang, really think it suits the RS hence why I chose it.

  • And here are some other shots taken in a different light at the dealers just before collection.

Thanks guys. Very quick one before I take the plunge. Just looking at the available toys ( I know it's not technically related to colour)

1) With this option, when you manouveur at low-speed the fog light will come on at the side you are turning.

You don't have to have the fog lights enabled for the function to work (just have the normal lights turned on).

This is useful if you are driving somewhere where it is completely dark but not as noticable when lit with street light.

2) The mirrors do not dip in reverse to aid parking.

However, the "auto-dimmable" option is very useful at night. The mirror have the same function as the interior read-view mirror.

When someone approaches from the side with very bright headlights, your side mirrors also dip so you can maintain visibility.

Auto-folding mirrors are not really necessary but I find it useful to know that the car is locked when the mirrors are folded in.

The passenger side mirror does dip if you have memory mirrors and turn the mirror switch to the passenger side mirror position and engage reverse gear.

I changed my order from metal grey to race blue for the same reason being the number of grey cars around. That said, saw a metal grey vrs in the dealers last week and it looks better in the flesh than brochure etc. I wouldn't have been disappointed if I'd stuck with the grey....

I'm very close to ordering a VRS hatch..  Was blue all the way for me.. until I stumbled on this thread. I'm going to mull it over tonight... and i'm torn between the petrol and the diesel! Maths / costs etc to be conducted later!. Order will be definitely placed in the morning.

After 15 years of hot hatches, i'm finally maturing in my 30s... ish.

Test

Well I took the plunge with the Metal Grey guys (via the Simpsons Skoda deal)

This is for 16k miles a year at the below spec.

· 2.0 TDI CR 184PS DPF

· Metal Grey Metallic

· 18" 'Gemini' anthracite alloys 7.5Jx18 (225/40 R18 92Y)

· vRS upholstery with red seams

· Extra Equipment

Sunset glass from B pillar back

Temporary space saver spare wheel

Black design package

Amundsen sat nav with SD card containing European maps (NOW A FREE OPTION ON ALL NEW BUILDS)

Canton sound system (10 speakers, digital equaliser, subwoofer)

Parking assistant (parallel, bay and manouvering out of a line of cars)

High beam assistant

Multi-function display/on-board computer "Colour"

Cornering front fog lights

Electrically heated, adjustable and folding door mirrors - auto dimming.

Just the minor issue of a 10 week wait but I'm sure it will soon come around ;)

What did that come in at p/m ( and what deposit) ..

Cheers

Why spec cornering fogs when you (or your local vcds enthusiast) can enable them for the cost of a pint!

Any thoughts on how the metal grey colour looks in between washes?

My previous Octy was black and looked amazing when cleaned but it didn't last long. From my experience silver cars are the best at not showing the muck.

In this respect is Metal Grey more like silver or more like black?

More like black I'm afraid. It looks stunning when clean but is much faster dirty than silver, much less boring as well ;)

Its exaclty the same grey colour as found on the Audi & VWs. I'm sure you will see lots around.

Agree with TomLux though, particularly in winter it shows the dirt quite clearly.

But then I guess any colour except silver will be the same.

But when you have a brand new car, you don't mind taking it to the carwash more regularly.

You just made me cry

:'(

There's only 1 thing worse than that and that's taking it to the local "Best hand car wash in Town", with their grit encrusted sponges!

Both the quickest way to ruin your paintwork.

Don't forget Gabbo is in Switzerland, who knows how painstaking they are with their (automated) carwashes. If he were anywhere else I'd go :o :o :o , but for now let's give him the benefit of the doubt...while I clean my car myself.

:D

As soon as I posted "carwash" i knew it was the wrong word.... :x

I've found that denim blu is surprisingly forgiving in that respect. It doesn't look dirty until you get fairly close. Very different from our old dark blue Volvo.

Luckily so, since I'm not allowed to get it washed until thursday. (No washing for the first three weeks after getting a protective coating applied.)

So, my vrs has just been delivered.... It's better than i remember. Looking forward to the drive home

I'll get some decent pics when i get more time

Lovely ! Yes plenty of pics please mate. Want to see how that color shines in the drab English weather we have at the moment. Haha

A couple more to wet the appetite...

As you can see its a typically miserable day here in Manchester and the delivery chap had to drive it 60 miles to get here, so it's not exactly clean

Looking good Greg.

I've ordered the hatch today, same colour. I needed a car in a hurry so obtained the in stock list ( quick delivery ). Fortunately there was a metal grey hatch parked up at the docks in Germany, so having looked at the spec I took the plunge.

Skoda octavia Vrs TDi ( Metal Grey )

Full heated Leather interior

sunset glass

black design  pack

sat nav

dealer option- lowered once in UK.

This thread, and seeing metal grey in the flesh, pursuaded me to buy.

This will be my first sensible car. Looking forward to taking delivery.  I'm toying with building a kit car to fill the performance void... that will come next year when the wedding's out of the way. pffft

Pretty much my order too! Not as many extras but the sat nav is a bonus, word to the wise the sales guy told me it may well change soon or they are expecting it to so if your thinking of ordering don't delay! Now the counting down begins :-)
