Bluetooth/ Phone Book

Featured Replies

So ive got round to playing about with the bluetooth, and connecting my mobile to the car. For some odd reason, despite being able to read the 'last calls' list from the phone, the car can not download the phone book. It doesnt come up with an error, as the manual suggests. It just keeps saying 'there are no numbers available, and to download the phone book', when you go to scroll through the phone book on the car (obviously, as there is nothing loaded into the car). Then when you try and reload the numbers again, it tries to do something, then a second later jumps back to the screen saying there are no numbers available. As i say, no errors as such coming up, as the manual says should happen.

That in itself doesnt bother me. But it seems to prevent me saving numbers as favourites onto the infotainment system. Is there anyway of manually inserting a number as a favourite? From what I can tell, you can only select a number from the phone book as a favourite. But I thought i would ask here, see if it is possible to do it manually.

What phone do you have?  Is the Bluetooth protocol compatible?

It does work with no issues using my Samsung Galaxy S4.

Im guessing it doesnt like something about my phone. Its a very basic Samsung. Nothing posh with large touchscreens or anything.

Phone doesnt even tell me what type it is!!

Have you assigned the contacts groups? In the phone I mean such as "my contacts" if your phone does this? Give that ago.

Give the suggestion above a go - also, post a photo of the phone.  A whole gamut of smart people on here, someone might be able to identify and therefore help with detailed instructions.

Saved some numbers under a group called 'My contacts'. Had to make a new group up. Just going to try that

Still nothing. When you go to settings- my profile, it can see how many contacts are in my phonebook, but wont upload any of them. Whenever you go to open your contacts list via the car, it just says 'no contacts phone numbers available' or something to that effect. Ive saved numbers into actual 'groups' on the phone, but nothing still. Is there any way of manually adding numbers into the 'favourites' on the car? That will suffice for the time being, but I dont think it is possible.

Are your contacts actually on the phone or SIM?

Originally some were on Sim and some on phone. It recognised them all (as in it could see the correct number of contacts), but it wouldnt upload any onto the car. Copied all that were on sim over to the phone, but made no difference. Have since deleted all those that were on the Sim. All are now under a group and saved on the phone. Dont see it making a difference but will see tomorrow.

This is the mobile. If it makes a difference. Im guessing the car doesnt like something about this mobile.

Holy **** it's got buttons! :D

its the phone, it only has limited bluetooth ability which is designed to connect to headset. You need a more feature rich phone that supports the required bluetooth protocols.

I had a very similar situation with my BlackBerry Bold. Phone was connected and could make calls from the phone whilst connected, but no contacts synced to the unit. My BlackBerry is my works phone and has over 800 contacts on it, just thought it was a compatibility problem but was surprised to notice after a while it did eventually sync the contacts. Maybe you have same problem, it took some time for contacts to be registered even though it kept saying there were no contacts.

Yep. What Mannyo said.

In a past life I used to work for one of the mobile networks and Bluetooth isn't has simple as it should be. Some phones won't copy contacts over to anything. Was a right pain when folk came in to get a new phone!

So, since you've bought a new car it's time to get a phone to match! :-)

I am one of the "just want a basic phone to make calls" brigade & my Nokia C1 which cost me £30 works fine with the car Bluetooth. The stored numbers sync & favourites select also.

So if you don't want to spend much you could do worse than a basic Nokia.

Nokia tend to support all Bluetooth functions, even on their basic phones (including RSAP). Samsung are one for cost cutting and limit the functionality on their basic phones.

Thanking you all! At least now i know. So now we know the phone is at fault in this case, whats the chance i can manually input favourites onto the car? Everything is there to do it. You can manually input phone numbers to call, and the ability is there to save numbers as favourites. It apparently even lets you edit numbers from the phonebook before saving them. However it doesnt seem to give you the option of saving any manually inputted numbers. Is there a way of doing it? Because if not, that very much seems a bit short sighted, and a silly little niggly annoyance with the car! (said on purpose for Neils benefit!!)

Yes Neil, it has buttons. So as you can see, not only am i a Skoda hater, but a smart phone hater as well!!!!!

@Mike999vRS- I already have a phone to match. The car is understated, so is the phone!!!

My wife has a Samsung SGH600 and like yours this connected fine but there was no phone book.  I transferred all the contacts to the SIM and deleted them from the phones memory.  From then on the phonebook has been available and updates when the numbers are added to or changed on the phone's SIM.  If you try this route you might find it helps to delete the pairing on the car and then re-pair with the phone with its numbers in the SIM so you are starting afresh.

Cheers Saffron. Will give this a go later. Thanks.

Tried Saffrons idea. Still no joy! Thatnkfully im on a Sim only contract, so fairly simple to swap the sim over to a cheap Nokia. Mike, is that what you meant by a new phone?!!!

Now i know why you cant add numbers in manually. The numbers arent actually stored on the car. Tried adding numbers onto favourites using my brothers phone. Worked a treat. No problems. But as soon as we diconnected his phone, the favourites vanished. Bummer!
