Anyone been to Blyton Park?

Looking for a venue to host the briskoda 2014 meeting. One where we can have a bit of a track / driver improving and hooning.

The last element narrows the list a little.

Have an option of two dates in August at this venue, just after some feedback, the course looks good and we have two circuits simultaneously.

Most the venues are old airfields, the headline circuits being far to expensive for a solo club proposition without manufacturer support!

So as a opener for 10, thoughts?

I'm also talking to Javelin to access their venues, piggy back a day or let them run the whole show at their circuit list...

It's a track I've been wanting to have a go on for quite a while now.

I'm game.

I done a few at the old track with scoobynet before it got took over and invested in. But yes I'm game.

In the nicest possible way oh great leader have you tried the search button :p

I'm pretty sure the extensive investment in recent years has brought it up to and above the standard of most other airfield venues.

I know evo magazine use the place for track work when they can't get in to Bedford, which is enough of a recommendation for me.

I've only discounted it so far from my trackdays only because its bloody miles away (i might as well go to Cadwell if going to drive to Lincolnshire) and it's a bit flat (as any airfield based track is going to be).

Would be an excellent venue for a (mini) mega meet though given it'd have space for the show queens and talkers and the track for the tyre burners.

a big thumbs up from me

I spoke to Prescott in the summer about tying an event there in with a potential Cotswold Run i was considering organising.

Issue was that they are limited on the number of days they can actually operate "on the hill" and they'd used their allowance by the time i got in touch.
I'm pretty sure the rough figures they sent me were stupid expensive too.

This map of venue locations from trackdays.co.uk shows the most central are going to be Mallory (shut?) Bruntingthorpe (middle of nowhere) or Donington (mega bucks) maybe Bedford (middle of no where AND mega bucks :D)

I reckon Blyton will be a good shout.

In (almost) the words of Field of Dreams - "Organise it and they will come"

Blyton was my first trackday. It's a bit odd because as there is no pitlane as such, just an on/off sliproad which goes off into the paddock.

Great fun though, bit narrow in part but it's fun. Some high speed corners.

We had our club trackday there a couple of years ago (lots of novices).

The guy doing the briefing was entertaining, informative, and really put people at ease and gave them the information they needed. All the track crew were welcoming and nice people to talk to.

Having no pit is great, as people really socialised and helped each other out in the paddock.

They set a basic track up in the morning that was great for people to get used to what they were doing and challenge themselves and their car safely.

In the afternoon, they turned the track round to make it more challenging. This kept it fresh for people.

In all, it may be a little too easy in the basic track arrangement for experienced track drivers. However, for most people on a owner's club "have a go" track day, it was perfect. Rearranging the track at lunchtime was great, it kept everyone interested.

I think it's a great place, and ideal for this kind of event.

We went to Blyton when we were testing with the Lotus 41, Richard is a nice guy with a passion to make his circuit the best it can be, it has come a long way in not many years and has a good quality surface and good run offs should anybody get it wrong.

As for the location, even though it seems very eastern, it has really good motorway links from M62 east-west and M1/A1 for north-south attendees and if you book early enough premier inns and other such budget hotels are always very cheap.

So, enjoy your day at Blyton Colin and then just let us know the dates and we will be there  ;)

I don't think they can do this anymore as I'm fairly sure they now have a permanent track layout there

I had a day booked late last year when my APR map immobilised my car on the way there but I've just forked out for another track day and I'll be attempting to go back on 1st April.

If you're talking to Javelin, they offer bookings at Bedford (which is one of MSV's, right?) - that would be a good place to go.

Hang on.........

I went to Blyton Park a while back for a driving experience, good location, nice track, road into the circuit was a bit potholey however, unless that's changed since I went (October 2012).

Couple of videos of muggins here on my experience: -

No Dan, it hasn't changed, the access road is still diabolical in all senses. It's like picking through a field of holes.

That's what the old track was like. Not the case of the fastest line but the safest :) was still a great/challenging track none the less.

I don't think they can do this anymore as I'm fairly sure they now have a permanent track layout there

I know evo remove the chicane from the middle of the back straight so that the supercars they "test" can really stretch their legs but i don't think it extends to much more customisation than that now.

Never been to Blyton but funnily enough I have been in the VW Golf in th OP video. It's fast and very well developed with home a home made aero package which includedes rubber side skirts (Lotus idea from the 70's now banned) and MDF splitter. It can also show GT3's the way around the Ring .

Small world hey!

Maybe a few of should book a track day there, sort of a check out mission for Colin and a bit of fun too?

Link to a £99 Javelin event in March.

Blyton Park

I did Blyton Park a couple of years ago in my Capri, great little track! Near to me to, I'd be up for taking the Octy round it!

Done Blyton a couple of times, really good value for money, and a fun track.

I'd come along
