I have had enough of my dad's moaning about the light feeling of the steering of his 2 month old 1.4 TSI SE 140. :D

Car is fitted with xenons, Amundsen and other goodies but not the driving profile option.

I have previously adjusted the steering weight/feel via VCDS on a range of different models (Golf 6, A3 8P, A4 B8, etc.) without issues.

But applying any changes to module '44 Steering Assist' of the Octy results in a security error.

I have tried all sorts of common security access codes with no luck.

Security access code for '09 central electronics' works like a charm and I have made a variety of mods like LED number plate lights, needle sweep etc.

Looking at the channels of the '44 Steering Assist' module it seems possible to choose between the different driving modes, such as comfort, dynamic etc. As mentioned applying the changes does not work.

So my question is, have anyone managed to gain access to '44 Steering Assist' OR been able to retrofit the driving profile feature?

Any input is highly appreciated!

A lot of the modules in the Octy3 are still being mapped by Ross Tech, the label file may not yet be correct or complete.

As a point of interest, excessivley light steering or steering which lacks "feel" can, sometimes, be be due to incorrectly adjusted wheel alignment / suspension geometry.

When I bought my (new) Mazda MX-5 I thought the steering had too much power assistance.  When I had the wheel alignemnt checked by a specialist workshop (Wheels-in-Motion, of Chesham) it was miles out, with (among other things) far too little castor.  When the alignment was set spot-on, the steering was weighted perfectly and various other slightly odd handling characteristics disappeared.  The car was transformed and became an absolute delight to drive.

Cheers, I do realize that a lot of the labels in the Octy are not mapped entirely yet. I would be happy to be a Guinea pig if only I could gain access to the module. :)

Interesting point! I did a 220 km motorway drive in the car yesterday and the Octy seems to struggle to maintaining a straight line.

Above 130 kph the steering is drifting very slightly to either side it never settles and just keep a straight line.

Car is on 16" winter tires with correct pressure.

Is this normal behavior for the Octy?

I guess the slight drifting could be caused by the toe in adjustment not being within specs? Or is it the camber adjustment not being within spec? :)

That is exactly how my Mazda behaved before I had the wheel alignment set correctly.  Behaved beautifully afterwards.

But make sure you go to a specialist workshop which has the appropriate kit and which also has the knowlege, skill, experience and enthusiasm to use it properly.  Lot of workshpos and even some Skoda main dealers claim to have this; not all of them do.

If you are anywhere near, I can recommend Wheels-in-Motion of Chesham (north-west of London).  I have been so impressed by them (and unimpressed by other workshops) that although I live on the Welsh borders, I take my car there.  Tony Bones, the proprietor, is a helpful bloke and is even happy to advise about competent workshops elsewhere in the country for those who live far away from Chesham.

(Usual disclaimers - I have no connection with the company except as a satisfied customer.)

By the way, if you do get the wheel alignment checked, please post here and tell us the outcome.

Took me by surprise when I picked up my vRS that it wandered around the road a bit. Having got off the dual carriageway primary route everything was fine. Haven't had alignment checked, but suspect from experience on other cars that this one has a fair bit of negative camber on the front wheels and it tends to follow the "tramlines" - grooves in the road caused by heavy vehicle traffic (though perhaps Danish roads are that much better than ours!). If it happens to you all the time, definitely get the wheel alignment checked before anything else.
