Skoda Octavia Estate TDI SD Slot - reading music

Featured Replies

Hey folks, Just signed up today and wondered if anyone can help me. I've got a Octavia Elegance Estate 2012 with an SD slot. Just purchased a Transcend 32GB SDHC card which reads WMA and MP3 files. However, when I put the SDHC card in, it only reads the music in the root directory. I've added some folders on the SDHC card but it's not recognising them.

Any ideas?

I'm transferring WMA and MP3 files from my Macbook Pro.

There must be a way of the stereo reading folders?

Help?

I've looked but can't find a direct answer to this already - apologies if it's already been answered somewhere else.

Firstly as you can read (and play?) something then your SD card must be formatted correctly (FAT32).

Well done on that as you are using a Mac and it's not the native format.

Secondly, as you are using a Mac it may be also creating folders whose name starts with an underscore character or a dot.

These folders cannot be read by the Columbus/Bolero/Amundsen and are invisible (hidden) when the card is inserted in the Mac.

Can you post a photo of your head unit showing folders that can't be read?

Also, how old is your Mac?

I had issues with my 2009 MacBook Pro but none with my 2013 iMac.

I'm new'ish too, and I'm having problems getting my Bolero to read everything off my 32gb SD card. Dealer kinda just shrugged their shoulders and agreed it was an issue....

AFAIK there has never been an issue with Bolero firmware limiting the SD capacity to 2Gb, so it should be possible.

Is the card formatted as FAT32?

Are the music files unprotected (DRM free) MP3 files?

How are you getting these files onto the SD card?

Will the Bolero see one such file located in the root of the SD card (not in a folder)?

Can you try a non-SDHC card of 2Gb or less to see if that works?

I format my large cards and usb sticks in exFAT - suitable for large capacity. they work on my bolero

One thing with the bolero I found is if you put a lot of music on 18gb it takes ages to load, but loads fine with less than 2gb of music but i think this is a trait of the head unit

There is a software update available from the dealers that can cure that.

You just need to find the right dealer...

The Mac can format an SD Card in FAT32 or ExFAT format - just use Disk Utility.

Regarding the "hidden" files and folders which the Mac can generate, normally prefixed by a dot, the best way of getting rid of these is to run a utility which removes them when you have finished loading stuff on to the card. The utility I use is called "Cleanup SMB Mess" and can be easily found via MacUpdate at https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11062/cleanup-smb-mess.
