Isn't brimming a petrol really bad for it as you can fill the charcoal canister with fuel?

  • I always use 98 when possible if I have to use 95 I only put enough in the tank to get home then top up 98 again.

  • From page 192 owners manual On vehicles using prescribed unleaded petrol of min. 95 RON, the use of petrol with a higher octane number than 95 RON can increase the power and reduce fuel consumption.

May well be but at present for testing, in the short term, it gives me my most accurate manual measure. Will then revert to pump cut off as you suggest.

Averaging just under 26mpg after 2 full tanks of VPower Nitro+. I personally think anything more than 95RON is wasted within this engine.

Interesting: what miles on the clock.

Filled up mine this morning, 30 miles shown on readout ,as yours. Filled to top of neck, visible  at the top  of filler neck.  Filled Capacity 46.82 litres ,that is 410 miles from fill to fill.

1603 mile OTC, since November 15th, so you can see I'm pretty low mileage.

I've been using Tesco 99 on my VRS TSI and best I've seen on a run using it is 42.9mpg (proper calc not the MFD),...plus cars feels a little quicker. I've got 3k miles on the clock and filled up a fair few times and I have to say there is a marginal positive difference between 95 ron and the 99 Tesco or equivalent stuff, however whether it's a big enough margin to cover the increased cost is open for debate!

Sorry for the delay in up dating progress.

1st tank of Tesco Momentum 99 RON, SAW A RETURN OF 36.4 MPG .Pretty much my normal style of driving in NORMAL MODE.

Mileage again very much the same as Sainsbury's Super unleaded previously.

So still holding around the same average. Current mileage at end of tank full 6900.

Any noticeable increase in get up and go - well my experience is a "Hardly Measureable " but maybe a very  small % gain. But don't hold your breath for a power surge!

The higher RON rating on both these fuels, give a smoother drive over 95 RON,BUT THE ECONOMICS, if you are a regular(3 YEARS) car turnover person, then the question is why bother if the car is covered under warranty to run on 95 RON?

Just done a 750 miles trip to Pembrokeshire.

Filled up with Sainsbury's Super Unleaded. 250 miles down at average speed mid 50's at 42. 5mph in Eco Mode.(don't usually use it -but longer run )

Computer read out has been accurate to date on tank to tank fill.

Return journey with half the journey on 95 RON against my better judgement, but within 50mile radius of Pembroke 98,99 non existent .

Overall journey back, having filled up again in Cardiff with this time Tesco Momentum 99 ROM. NOTE! ROAD CONDITIONS WERE AWFUL, wet , loads of spay and some maniac drivers not helping. Returned 38 .2 mpg.

So 40.5 mpg was pretty pleasing.

Forgot to say car came up for 1st SERVICE INDICATOR - 8750. now at 9100.

NOTE! TO DATE ONLY TOPPED UP ONCE WITH THE DREADED ENGINE OIL, 0.5 LTR AT 5300.

A bit better than the old Fabia vRS mK2,thank God!

as well as whos playing around,

A postman knows when someone is playing around? Milkmen, postmen, husbands at work?

Im not saying anything :D

Drove from St Davids in Wales to Norwich on Sunday. Clear roads.

Using Shell VPower at a cruise control set speed of 82. Trip computer said i managed 36mpg - which i was happy with considering i was giving it the beans away from roundabouts en route.

THAT IS PRETTY GOOD.

DID YOU LOG THE AVERAGE SPEED?

Yes, i believe that when i checked (about 30 mins from destination) I was on around 71mph.

Hypothetically speaking, must have gone above the cruise control speed on a few occasions. ;)

Slight side note gentlemen, having recently been on a VCDS my 1.4 TSI was producing 262.3Nm or nearly 5% more power than book running on Tesco Momentum 99Ron, I couldn't tell you what it produced on "shopping fuel", its never had any.

What is Tesco then , an oil refinery.

THAT IS SOME AVERAGE SPEED FOR THAT MILEAGE.

The mpg is very very  good at that also.

Sorry Keith, I don't understand your question/point ?

"Shopping fuel"

Lost in translation, I guess

Arrr yes, translation "shopping fuel" 95 Ron, my mistake.

Albiet it wasn't logged from a fill to fill, the computer, which to be fair has been very accurate in agreement to Fuelly so far, got over 47mpg on my trip from reigate to SE london the other day and was still going up, until i got back in to london traffic, and it settled at 46 by time i got home, amazingly impressed, if it was accurate!

I've only clocked just over 1500 miles as well so its barely worn in.

It can be quite horrible though in heavy traffic, i got around 19mpg the other day sat in rush hour traffic.

The car has only ever had V-power and Momemtum99 since i got it, no idea if this is helping, haven't fed it anything else yet.

ignore, cannot work out how to post an image on this site from my stupid MS Onedrive account..

So two more recent tank fills, generated 36.5 and 37,5 mpg. Brilliantly consistent on a mixed route ,local commutes and general run outs.

One tank Tesco Momentum and the other Sainsbury's Super Unleaded.

Not a major difference in performance grunt between them in my opinion.

Motor has now done 10,000 miles, and has bedded in well.

Sweet as a nut and I'm now really please with my decision to go the TSI manual route.

Love smooth drive- loving it to bits!!

First 200 mile at 28.5mpg. No idea what the dealer filled the tank with.

I then filled with shell v power nitro and for 35.8 mpg over the next 400 miles on motorway.

Averaging just under 26mpg after 2 full tanks of VPower Nitro+. I personally think anything more than 95RON is wasted within this engine.

You must drive it like you stole it - I was getting 25 mpg out of a 400 bhp Porsche 911 ( using V-Power - lucky to get 23 mpg when I had no choice but use Supermarket 95 RON when I couldn't get proper fuel).
