They are not driven as such, it is part of the the hybrid system. Between turbine and compressor sits MGU_H unit, this harvests turbo energy on slow down and keeps the turbo spinning at optimum revs completely eliminating turbo lag - a simple (not!) but how elegant and ingenious implementation of an electric motor :).

Have a look here.

Interesting clip, although the bit from 0:54 to 0:58 suggests it's a two-stroke engine!

  • Not completely sold on the nose regs for this year either, but some interesting designs came out however can't say Im sold on the ones that are just blatantly appendages (eg TorroRosso or ForceIndia).

What a mental race! On the edge of my seat the whole time fantastic. Hamilton from pit lane to 3rd, Alonso done a great job and I think my driver of the day has to be Ricciardo, just massively impre

LOL, well spotted Xavier!

Confirmed on Sky Sports just now during the free practice that Marussia have ceased trading.

I'm not that much of a mechanic. OK, I built an engine from the ground up when I was 14, but it was a simple two-stroke mono cylinder engine for "mobylettes" you used to have in France.

But one thing my dad taught me which I've never forgotten is the "Suck - squeeze - bang - blow", and it's stuck with me ever since, so those kind of blatent errors do stick out like a sore thumb :D

Bit of a shame but not unexpected.

Any news on Caterham?  I assume Marussia is now a cheaper option to buy into F1

They need £2.0mil to race in the season finale...

Pledge what you can, give generously!

Not sure how I feel about Caterham asking fans for money. Would be a bit like me maxing out my overdraft then asking people on Briskoda to pay it for me...

Yeah I just looked through the things on offer. Things like nose cones and wings are sold out, £550 you can have a meal with one of their drivers, what happens if they fold, where'd the money go then? Not my kinda thing, I do kinda agree with Bernie saying they know how much they got to spend but they still spend more.

As they are using crowd funding, the money is only transacted from the public if they hit the target. If they don't hit the target Caterham don't get a penny.

Disappointed about Marussia, especially that Bianchi's two points from Monaco will now go to waste. The administrators didn't give much time to find a buyer!

I've stuck £5 into the Caterham fund.. maybe if they can be kept going a bit longer and make the final race there is a better chance of finding a buyer for them.

Saw a twitter rumour that a fan is trying to crowd source an F1 team from scratch?

Well sort of; Brabham2014 (to distinguish them from any earlier team using the same name) are trying to crowd-fund as part of an LMP2 entry, and have stated ambitions to evenetually move into F1.

Caterham are half way to their target but only have three days to go.. dig deep guys!

Done my bit - 2 lots of £6 (so the kids can have a set of ear plugs each!)

Caterham have put some interesting stuff up for grabs there.

Hmm £2k to stick a logo on an F1 car... :D Not cheap, but kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And I hate to think how much a year-deal costs!

£420 For AP front brake calipers that's a bargain wonder if you can squeeze them under a citigo

Might sort myself a new coffee table with one of the rims for sale :)

That's what I thought! A bargain!

You should be able because IIRC, F1 cars (for the moment) have 13" rims. Lotus trialled larger (17?) in Bahrain was it?

If it does fit, it's something for Richard's bonkers citigo - standard wheels, with F1 brakes!

H*11 yeah!!

Alonso goes to McLaren it has been announced. I hope JB stays as he's more consistent and has more points than Kevin Whaterverhisnameis.

It looks likely that an announcement will be made before the weekend and Jenson will leave.

Who's announced it?
