Trackcar weight saving

Featured Replies

I would like to reduce the weight of the RS , what can be removed without too much effort { and replaced if need be}, and is it worth drilling out body parts , doors etc,

Steve

rear bench, spare wheel and tools are probably the easiest, passenger seat if its not being used

Back seats are lumpiest, especially the bits you lay back on. Passenger seat is a good'un too. Other bits of trim and that are a waste of time if the idea is to refit after.

Stick to what my namesake says, back seats, and contents of spare wheel well. Oh, and the wheel bolt covers too. ;)

dash, roof lining, door trims, electric window motors, as above, basically anything that isn't needed!!

Glovebox, rear seats, anything in the boot (eg spare wheel, tools etc) rear door trims, carpets, headlining, front crashbar behind bumper

ditch the standard exhaust. The rear box must be a good 7-8kg

Ditch the passenger :D

oh i thought stuff was going back in straight after a track sesh,if not then theres loads of black mastic sound deadening all over the floor, takes about a day to remove and weighs a whopping 1kg.

having a poop can shed a few lbs before a track sesh ;)

The metal bracket the cd changer sit's in is quite heavy, rear speakers, fronts, headunit?

Theres sound proofing on the roof too, roof lining comes down quite easily, have pics if you need help with this :)

Polycarbonate windows ?

Carbon fibre body panels

buy a caterham.and put it in the octavia boot, much more fun(i can only imagine)

Carbon fibre body panels

Just loose the body panels and drive Aerial Atom style ;)

Removing rear speakers isn't as bad as it sounds. On the furbies there's only three bolts holding the whole plastic grill/speaker assembly to the side of the car, and the seat belt runs through it, but is easily unslotted out.

And it bolts back in OK too, I should think two of those with speaker attached would be over 2kg saved.

My suggestion would be all the soundproofing on the underside of the bonnet or better still a carbon bonnet.

Almost everything mentioned so far is from the back of the car, but in the Fabia that would concern me :o

Is it possible for a car to do 'stoppies' if you brake hard enough? :D

How much does the engine cover weigh?

Engine cover weighs sod all (about 500g or 600g as I posted one recently), but it all counts I guess. ;)

Removing the front bumper wouldn't take too long, and think of all that extra venting!

only 500g, but i bet the engine sounds like a beast without it

1.8T has no sound deadening under the bonnet, doesn't need it without the tractor under the bonnet :D

Bengie i just want to have a look at the crashbar, see how easy it is to remove it and how bumper will bolt back up.

Steve

Thanks Jon :D , Once removed will it cause any problems refitting bumper?

Steve

How about removing all the motors for the rear windows and the mechanisms (if fitting poly rear windows), the rear wash wiper mechanism too. Go right to town and put a smaller racing fuel tank too :)

Finally take all the badges off that is sure to save some weight :D
