Thumbs up to admiral

Phoned admiral earlier and got through to their Canadian call centre which is entertaining in itself...I had a bad experience with my previous insurance company when buying a new car mid term.

Admiral have changed the policy over as of 28/01 and advised I am covered on the current car until I lock it up and put the key in the new car and drive away. Much more flexible than having a set time and uncertainty of having to phone when at the dealership and sort it out there and then.

Any other good/bad experiences?

Admiral are refusing to deal with my claim on a non-fault basis and insist on keeping it open for 12 months in case the third party claims against me.

This is an accident where I was hit in the rear side by a left hand drive lorry that moved out of it's lane and hit me in my lane, in his blind spot.

I have showed them the pictures AND the video footage from my car clearly showing that I was driving along in the middle of my lane at the time of the accident.

Not impressed.

I have five cars on a multicar policy with them (you can only have 5 per policy) and needless to say this was a good reason (having an outstanding unsettled claim) to bump my insurance up about 20% this year for an accident that was completely not my fault and I have shown them the proof. (it was a 40% increase before I phoned them up)

Less than impressed.

Admiral gets a   from me.

I love it when they blame you for something that's clearly not your fault, A friend had the same a drunk driver hit his car parked on the road he was sitting inside his house at the time.

The Insurance company who he was claiming against said it was HIS FAULT ! WTF????, they dragged it out for over 6 months and settled out of court just before the case.

For the past few years Admiral have consistently been the cheapest quote on the comparison sites for me, but due to hearing several negative stories from people about their lack of interest in dealing with claims, I wouldn't go near Admiral.

Admiral came up with the cheapest quote for me and the cost of insuring both cars on their multicar policy was frighteningly low. They came 3rd from bottom in the latest which consumer report so I used their quote as leverage to get a better deal elsewhere.

I had to clim for my car in 2011 when someone ran into me and admiral used a third party company to deal with it. I'd have issues going back to them, I only went to avia because they came in almost 40% cheaper.

I'm claiming with them now. My fault as I damaged another car. They are already dealing with her car but said they need from me is photos and a quote. Emailed both these off Friday so we'll see how it goes. They did say they may have to get a second quote but I'm insisting they use the Skoda apporved repairer. Only minor damage (light, bumper, paint, etc) but I want it done properly. So far they've been pleasant enough and way better than the company I insured my bike with. Like Richard I have to keep the policy open just in case I'm claimed against. The bike was scrapped the day I came off and that was last May.

Finger up to Admiral here.

They lost a customer in me today. :finger:

I was a multicar customer.

Renewal due on 6th Feb.

Got both the S3 and the 500 insured separately this year.

Mrs Grr now having her very first own policy too as she was just a named

driver on both cars via Admiral so in effect with zero no claims in her case

as she only keeps the 6 years ncb she got on the multicar policy IF she reinsures

with Admiral on a single policy. Despite this, we got both cars insured fully comp etc

for under 500 total spend (Both policies with AXA) compared to the £804 Admiral wanted

just to renew our policy after 6 years re insuring with them. Loyalty counts for NOTHING

in this game and we've had to ring round every year to get a bit knocked off of the original

renewal from Admiral, typically they reduce it by about 100quid but you have to spend a good

30 minutes on the phone with them to get the reduction going over every last detail on the policy.

This year, same again. Managed to get it down to around 700 quid with them but decided a further

200 off of this inevitable and recurring annual expense was too good to turn down.

So I politely said no thanks ;) requested my proof of no claims and accepted the quotes

from AXA. The daft thing is, if Admiral hadn't tried to be greedy and had quoted the 700 in the first

place I might not have bothered ringing around but what gets my goat is that they try it on in the hope

that you wont bother checking the competition.

The S3 cost me just £235 to insure this year and slightly more (£260) for the Fiat mainly that because

technically my wife has zero no claims this time. Protected no claims on both and each can

drive the others car if necessary. Courtesy car, legal cover and all that good stuff.

So both cars fully comp for 495, Admiral can stick their £804

where the sun doesn't shine...  And finally Mrs G can start building up her own no claims.

I'd never use Admiral again.  Years ago I used them, I bought a policy, disclosing my SP30 speeding ticket (3 points) of some months earlier.  I was away from home in the car, and out of the blue some Welsh boy from Admiral phoned me on my mobile and stated that they didn't insure drivers with a speeding ticket and subsequently my insurance policy was immediately being withdrawn - at that very moment!  So I drove home 50 miles, theoretically without any insurance.  Granted they reimbursed my premium, but what a trash company considering I disclosed my SP30 when I bought the policy.  Seemed to me that they take your money and then later decide whether they want your business or not, they actually choose after they've taken your premium, with disastrous consequences.

About the same time a work colleague was stopped at a Give Way junction when an 'al fellah ran into the back of him writing his car off.  He ('al fellah) admitted liability, but Admiral refused to pay out until 1 year and 1 day had passed.  My colleague was unable to finance another vehicle to replace his damaged one during that time.

So, in my experience, use Admiral at your risk!  I still cringe to this day whenever I see their TV ads.  Never again!

I've had good and bad experiences with admiral. Some of the good being very competitive prices (they own confused.com, so Admiral or their sister company's like elephant, bell etc) will nearly always come up cheapest), and usually good customer service. The bad recently with them taking money from my mums account in December for a policy that should have been cancelled and finished the year before, and there was no emails or letters or anything to say they were going to do it either! Then when she called up to get it back, they tried giving her a bit less than they'd taken for administrative charges! Cheeky tw@ts! A few other things as well, but we won't be going back with them.

I'd love to find an insurance company who doesn't penalise you for being in an accident that wasn't your fault.

  • 1 month later...

Just had a barney with these ****'s.

Rang to confirm and pay my son's insurance due next Thursday, and transfer onto our multi car policy.

"Oh, that'll be £50 then Mr R.

£50?

I thought it was £160 to take him up to our family muti car policy renewal date in July?

Yes, it would be, but we've retained the £110 reund owed to you following your removal of the Octavia in January from the policy, due to the fact that you owe us.

But I DON'T owe you anything...AT ALL.

The premium for my son, who is paying independently is DUE, (next week)  NOT owed!!!!!!"

They are arranging for my refund to be authorised now...two months late.

I have asked for interest at 2% above base rate to be added.

hateful hateful creatres these insurance companies. :@

I'm with Admiral, so far so good for me. I made a change to the policy half way through, twice. First time was changing car, they simply requoted me a for a hell of a lot less than I expected, and advised me that they'll give it some time for my personal reg plate to go through and won't charge fees... then DVLA cocked up, so I still ended up paying £17.50 to change the reg number.

Other than that though, they've always been nice to talk to, very helpful... So let's see how that goes when I change address in a couple of months!

GUSHINGLY so yesterday....and false imo.

I'm not with them to be friends though, I simply want the best price.

They care for me and you as muich as we do towards them...non existance.

They simply want your money, simple as, end of.

I simply want to give these thieving gits as little of my already battered income as is humanly possible.

I'm insured through Bell, have been for many years and never had a problem. At renewal the quote is always non competitive, but they have always matched the cheaper quote + 10% more. Currently the Audi premium is less than £200 a year with business use included.

  • 2 years later...

I've just claimed through none fault accident. Car drove into mine while I was asleep.

Car was towed away that day. Received car back 6 weeks later.

Courtesy car was not quick though, and wanted to me to go through their accident management company which would of been a credit agreement leaving me to pay the bill if the third party didn't want to pay.

Third party arranged courtesy car immediately. Got picked up to collect. Dropped off courtesy car after repair, and was given a lift to pick my car up.

TBH I think you'd struggle to find any insurance company that doesn't have a long chain of ****ed off customers behind them.

Sainsburys (and whomever their underwriter is) have been very helpful when dealing with sWMBOs car which I inherited. Waved all fees for changes and cancellation and ins was automatically transferred to me as a named driver on her death. Finally got round to cancelling it today. Forgot all about it but finally remembered that you have to be careful to cancel insurance now and not just let it run out.

can't remember the story now but some poor punter got nailed for that.

SAGA treat me very nicely and with respect, as i deserve for the likes of the old gentleman that i am when insuring standard cars for me and another dottery personage.

They happily even take the extra dosh if i mistakenly break the speed limit and get caught.

For anything with mods, or when not wanting a matched NCB there are some very nice Brokers & Specialists around that are in the main very helpful.

I do not care if they want my money as i want cover and if the Call Handler is nice and helpful i will often buy right then as they get the quote

and the price is good.  I want them to get the sale.

If they even seem a bit disinterested or just stupid or impatient i will put off buying and call again to take up the offer.
