Bought a VRS, now everyone drives like fools

Featured Replies

Heh. Within 5 minutes of me picking up my R32, I had a couple of kids in a Focus with a hairdryer engine at some lights, revving their engine at me. Sounded like popping candy. Then, while the lights were still red, they wheelspun off! Bonkers.

  • Absolutely love this.. I also wear a white shirt with black epaulette's, which heightens the fun in this game.

  • "I may have been slightly over the limit" or "I certainly wasn't driving below the limit" may have passed off better lol.

by a skoda or maybe the vrs.....

Think it is the vRS that changes peoples' behaviour - I now have the exact same year Octy 2 but the 105 diesel and it's like being invisible in comparison to the vRS. Only real difference to the debadged rear though is lack of spoiler.

I've had plenty of idiots try it on over the years in the two vRS's I've had. I like to make progress so I'm rarely held up but have had a few block overtakes by speeding up to prove a point.

In the 3 years ive had my vrs ive had the odd idiot or two do silly stuff but i just let it go over my head & let them get on with it.

Theres a 20 Zone near me but no one takes any notice of it, except me, it's a 20 zone so 20 it is.

I had to brake test some young **** in a 1.2 Corsa with blacked out windows and a sports kit . He was so close I could just see him in my wing mirrors.  He finally got the message.

This used to happen with me back in '04 when we had a dark green Volvo V70, especially when I was wearing a white shirt!

I used to drive over to Farnham oncea moth or so on a Saturday morning &, not being in a tearing hurry, I used to cruise around the M25 at

about 70 mph.

I never had to use the outside lane at that speed but I'd often find myself at the head of a law-abiding queue, with no-one being brave enough to

overtake me.......

In the end the penny dropped, I'm driving a plain-jane V70 on local number plates & I'm being mistaken for unmarked traffic plod!

Funny, but also a bit disconcerting at the time. Even now, if I'm driving SWMBO's vRS or my Mondeo wagon & decide to match pace with an overtaking car

it's quite common to see the car in front drop back to the legal limit. Never happens in the Superb though, probably not often used much as unmarked cars or

perhaps it's just too slow to catch-up with them?

I don't have this problem, but then I don't mind people being in front of me.

Remapping it tends to make overtaking a more decisive action too which helps. I think there will always be drivers who hate being passed by anyone so will speed up as you pass them and drop back again afterwards; but I don't think it's unique to vrs ownership.

i've had the "oh crap its an undercover cop" thing, even with a personalised 6 digit plate. Bit of a shock today, driving the 160 miles home from crew on the M6/M5 and didnt get it at all which was refreshing

I've had this problem since I bought my Fabia ii vRs, back in may last year. That is "Boy racers" pulling up next to me at lights then racing away.

I was advised to debadge (on this forum), I did  & sure enough mostly the problem went away. After a time though I missed the adrenaline rush (you don't get many of them at 69!!), and went to put my vRS logo back on. Couldn't find it though, so instead I replaced it with the stickers in the attached pics. Excitement is back now but at least they know what they are letting themselves in for BEFORE they take me on.

In 52 years of motoring I must say the Fabia vRS is the most fun car I have ever had - and I've had some fast cars & I am very sad to hear of its demise.

Always the same no matter what car you drive.

Had our BMW no one let you out EVER and you always get the Audi Brigade, the Octavia people always want to race you despite having a car load of dogs, kids, wife etc now in the Cee'd is people just drive out in front of you like you don't care.

I thought this was all in my head!

I must admit, I've had this kind of attention more than any other previous car - and I've been driving for well over 20 years.

Trouble is, it's not a particularly fast car, truth be told.  :peek:

fast enough in the real world though

I don't get any of this. Mines black and debadged, I assume people think it's an unmarked police car :)

Well, this morning it was an 08 plate Fiesta ST500 behind me on a round about then went over to the left to get past me and undertake... wasn't sure what it had under the hood, but not much apparently! :giggle:

unless yours has been mapped there is very little in it, 0.6 sec a difference in the 0-60 time, st has 150 bhp standard but is lighter...

you would obviously thump him on mid range but in the corners the st would be quicker.

i know i owned one for 7 years.

are you sure it wasnt a normal fiesta with stupid stickers on it to make it look like a 500

No it was a st500 for sure, or a very good replica. It went ok, i did zip past him at mid range, though he wasnt getting away lower down either... it was a straight dual carriageway, no corners. And yes on the roundabout, it was like a mini cooper.

I'm finding it's Mercedes drivers that cause me the most problems, if I overtake any or even pass them briskly on a dual carriageway for example, they do everything possible to get back in front.

lastnight for example I was coming down a dual carriagway in the outside lane aproaching a roundabout with a Merc in other lane, I passed him with about 6 car lengths and then pulled in, he then booted it and passed me on the roudabout and slammed on once off the roundabout and appeared to offer me some Nescafe coffea with a hand jesture?

in a word "TOOL"!

Id have said thank you and taken the nescafe, kindly man.

Ive hardly ever had a issue but today i had somebody in a yellow octavia vrs tdi estate take offence with me overtaking him, another car & the tractor & trailer tonight, they all were faffing about behind the tractor & trailer so when a saw a chance to over take i did,i passed & carried on with my journey doing 60mph,after 5 mins or so this octavia came flying up behind me,sat inches from my bumper for a mile or so then over took me causing oncoming traffic to brake & shot of in a cloud of black smoke........if you are a member on here & it was you today on the A64 heading towards the east coast........you sir are a c*ck!  :finger:
