A sad day - the vRS has to go :(

Featured Replies

Well I thought I'd be keeping it longer than this (hence why I've spent a fortune on it to get it right), but I've been offered a free car (Toyota Rav-4) and I've missed having a 4x4, so the vRS has gotta go.

Here's the rub - I want a quick sale but I also want what it's worth or near to it.   Does my asking price sound fair?  I reckon it's worth about £2200 or nearest offer.

It's a 2004 04 plate vRS 1.8T in silver with factory parking sensors, factory electric sunroof and retrofit cruise control (using genuine VW group parts).  I bought it in August with 114,000 miles on, it's now got about 116,500 on (I've hardly used it).  I'm the third owner.

Since I bought it it has had the cambelt and water pump replaced, the big 120,000 mile service done, new discs and pads both front and rear, new genuine Skoda alloy wheel centres, a new rear wiper motor, new CV joint, pollen filter changed and air conditioning re-gassed, the gear linkage reset, a new set of Osram Nightbreaker Plus headlamp bulbs fitted, the wiring repaired so the boot light now works (that's how fussy I am with my cars!).

It comes with a set of genuine Skoda black plastic door sill protectors that I haven't had time to fit yet and a brand new genuine Skoda touch up pen set, along with a spare Bosch driver's side windscreen wiper.  Tyres have at least 4 mm of tread but are a budget brand (all the same brand though).  Not much tread on the spare.  MOT is due 15 July 2014.  2 remote keys with Skoda main dealer keyrings.  Standard 17" alloys 3 of which are in really good condition, 1 has some kerb damage but nothing major.  Original vRS mats; driver's side has a hole in it.  Auto-locking enabled by VAG-COM.  Also comes with a VAG-COM diagnostic printout.

The interior is in really good condition, I've recently cleaned and treated the leather.  The carpet is surprisingly clean for a white carpet!  Standard stereo with CD changer, works but sounds awful (as they all do).  Externally it's in really good condition, there is a small crease / dent to the top of the O/S/F wing, a dent next to the rear numberplate (would cost about £50 to repair) and some touched up stonechips to the front.

It has an A4 folder full of receipts and every MOT from new apart from one.  No tax (or remaining tax which is 6 months from 1st February could be added to price).

Let me know your thoughts!  Cheers in advance.

Photos are from when I bought it.

i sold an 03 plate one last year, with 76000 on the clock in near mint condition. i put it up for 2250 and had 0 interest, dropped it a couple of times and ended up selling it for £1750

That doesn't bode well for me then...

Woah, they really are going cheap these days. It is worth that all day long in Ireland but our government likes to take its cut and I just looked it up. The vehicle registration tax to import your car to here is just over €1000. I genuinely think that must be having a negative impact on this part of the second hand market in the UK.

Look on the bright side, you're somehow getting a free Rav-4.

Yep, they've certainly dropped in value!  The Rav-4 is from a family member and is 13 years old; it's pretty solid though and I know its history which is the main thing.  If I could find a way to keep both then I would, but I hardly use the vRS as it is.

No way. I was going to buy that one myself im sure of it. Was it for sale in huddersfield?

I never went to view it mind my black one popped up 1mile from my house

When i bought mine in feburary last year the seller dropped the price from £2300-2250-2000-1900-1800 and then i knocked him down to £1650 plus my part-ex. By the time id put 6months tax on it set me back at £1440

Yep, that's the one!

Seems like about £1800 ono seems about the right price for it.  Wish I could keep it, but from previous experience pulling a car off the road and never using it doesn't seem to do them any good.

Right folks, it's for sale! It's advertised elsewhere for £1800 ono with six months tax and MOT till the middle of July but Briskodians get a £100 discount due to all your help (so £1700 ono on here).  PM me to view any time.

It'll also come with the rear luggage net and some genuine Skoda black sill protectors that I haven't had chance to fit yet (I'll try and get them fitted over the next couple of days).

I'll be bunging it on the classifieds on here too, same price.

Oh, and you get a free black text Briskoda sticker too that I never got around to fitting!

I'd also like to say a big thank you to all those that have helped me with questions, advice etc over the last six months.  Briskoda is by far the friendliest and most helpful car forum that I've come across, which is why I'll be hanging around even after the car's gone.

Sold to the first viewer, who I know will look after it.  I'm going to miss that car!

Quick sale!
