Indicator lever does not auto reset

Featured Replies

Drove away in my new vrs ex demo today and really happy....apart from one thing....the indicator lever does not reset when I finish turning both left and right hand turns! Have gone all through settings and cannot correct it. I think it may be a mechanical fault in steering column. Can anyone help!?

Does it not reset no matter how much you rotate the steering wheel?

Sounds like a fault to me, I'd be on the phone to the dealer.

No nothing makes it reset! Dealer says they will look at it when I take it back Saturday. Just wandered if there was some sort of setting to enable/disable.

Let us know what the dealers say was/is wrong with it.

Use BMW mode until Saturday

This that where you just give everything the finger ?

No, there's no way to enable/ disable indicator reset. It's purely mechanical. Looks like a fault if it doesn't reset after turning the steering wheel, let's say, half a circle

There is a ridge on the wheel and a bit sticks out of the lever, one hits the other and causes the return. No settings simply mechanical contact. One, or the other, is broken/missing. Easily fixed and covered by warranty.

One lesson I've learned on my other car, modern steering wheels with lots of electrical controls at much trickier to remove than old style steering wheel with just a horn.

Ended up with bits flying everywhere when I removed the steering wheel on my other car to do some maintenance. A serious ohh sh#t moment until I worked out how to put it back together.

No, it's where you don't use indicators full stop and expect people to know where you might want to go. ;)

Take it back to the dealer asap. I've had this before when retro fitting cruise. There is a pin that is not seated properly in the indicator stalk that connects to the steering column. Has the car had cruise retro fitted?

Exactly right.

Had a Mondeo stolen years ago and just as it was ready for collection from the repairers they found it wouldn't self cancel and had to order new bits for it!

That's Volvo drivers ! Indicators are an "optional extra" for their cars, and rarely fitted and / or used by 'em !!

No cruise control fitted. Car is booked in for Wednesday and will be covered under warranty : )
