Octavia wont start after driving no lights on cluster

Featured Replies

Im relatively new here, so let me know if i have posted this in the wrong section. but i own a 2008 skoda octavia rs with a unique problem. If i go into the car and turn the key in the ignition everything is fine the car starts and drives but after i turn the car off it will no longer start again until i leave the car to sit for some time. when i try to start the car no lights come on in the dash although the stereo windows and driving lights all work. their is also a clicking sound coming from the dash when i turn the key into the start position.

any help would be greatly appreciated as I am really fond of my skoda and am disappointed that such a reliable car has this major electronics problem.

regards

Andrew

The clicking sound you describe is often related to either a weak or failed battery or duff starter motor.

A dying battery has been known to cause some very strange electrical problems on the MkII Octavia.

The starter motor has also had its fair share of criticism on here too, but mainly on the 1.9 PD105 diesel engine.

Do you known anyone locally with VCDS? If you can plug the car in and have the fault codes read this will give you an idea of the problem...

Welcome to Briskoda by the way B)

Maybe a faulty ignition switch or a duff relay? i changed my ignition switch on mine as the car was doing some weird things & it cured all the faults.

had same sort off problem

for me it was a faulty relay switch.

I've just had the same problem on my 2007 Octavia Combi. I believe there are known faults with Octavia panels and as the immobiliser is part of the panel it's an AA job to the Skoda garage on the back of the truck if like me you have the a 4X4 version. The problem is that like mine, when the panel is taken out it comes to life again and can run for up to a few years before dying completely. My friendly Skoda dealer said to try the car for a few weeks and see how I got on. During this time I took the advice of mannyo on this site and emailed Ales Prochazka at www.skodateile.cz about the price of a relacement unit. I was quoted £740 for the Skoda garage replacement. The Skodateile price after converting it from Euros was £182 plus carriage of about £15. Quite a a saving! I scanned my logbook details for the correct panel version, transferred money by IBAN (This cost me £39) on a Thursday afternoon. The new panel was posted in Prague on Friday morning and I received it at my house on the Monday morning. Every email I posted to Skodateile was replied to within an hour. Great service!! The new panel is now fitted and it is a genuine new later version with a matrix display compared to the older green LCD version but works perfectly!

Thanks Briskoda for saving me a LOT of money!!
