Do you have a plan B?

Featured Replies

One other thing. Both the gearboxes, Manual and Auto, are better in the Skoda. I was lent a VRS TSI DSG while our manual version was in for some work and the DSG box was brilliant compared to the 7G Tronic. As for the manual box in the Merc...No just no.

Well I pick my C250 up tomorrow. It's not the wait that's the issue, I get supply and demand, I get it can be unpredictable and difficult to manage but.... All I want is a firm date given to me when

My plan B was a MK7 Golf R DSG, decided I could live without the VRS' large boot for a couple of years

Plan B is a Mazda 6 Tourer Sport Auto. Not quite as fast or as nice to drive as the TDI VRS DSG, but I much prefer the overall looks and the interior of the Mazda. Boot isn't as big as the Octavia's either, but big enough for me.

Pick it up a week tomorrow :)

But a Mk7 Golf R......mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Sadly, the boot is just too small for me. Still jealous though!

Yeah I needed a bigger boot for my Golf Clubs tbh but decided that I can manage

C250 CDi with the 7 G-tronic auto is superb. Performance wise id bet it would run a vRS TDi close whilst being more efficient and cheaper to run.

Id take solace in running about in a quick and relatively cheap to run nearly 40k old gen car (that lets face it is still in another league to an Octavia MK3) that id got at vRS money.

Sorry but it'd be a no brainer for me.

+1 for the C250 CDI wait a bit longer and you'll get a cracking deal on one as the dealers are trying to shift the "old" cars go fo 3 years free servicing aswell.

Been chatting with the dealer(s) this morning on the Merc as wanted to go see one close up.

Very nice place to sit indeed, they didn't have a 250 CDI locally so I'm off to my next nearest who do have one as soon as I can get there. Interestingly the local dealer saw the bit of paper I had stuff written on noted Carwow and he price, he asked if he could beat it in some way would I order from them, I said of course your 5 miles away not 165 miles away!

He came back to me a short while ago, price match but on a car with the bi xenon pack and 3 years free servicing so it looks like there's cracking deals to be had.

Performance wise I believe the saloon is 7 seconds to 60 so adequate enough.

I cant seem to get the online car configurator past the colour and wheel options for the Merc C class ...

How much smaller inside, what is reliability like ?

One offer back from car wow for a C-Class C200 AMG Line 4dr Auto - 0% discount

Yes, the website is a mess because of the switchover....I had to drop into a dealer today to get a hard copy brochure....if you're desperate for any details I can look them up!

I got some zero discounts back, assuming they are the new model. The best carwow offer on the C250 diesel AMG Sport premium Plus in black with 18's was just over 6k off list.

The reading your post it looks like carwow may well have swapped to the new models already..

Yep, car wow now doing the new model.

If it helps my best offer was from Bristol MB.

The new model isn't yet out and carwow have switched ... oops ! Looks that way as second dealer has done a 0% offer.

6K of list would just about be over budget, I could find it if the car was everything I wanted, but I don't think that C class is for me anyways.

The A4 1.8 TFSi I can get for my £25k buget, not sure how the rear passenger legroom compares to the Octy, but still would ideally want the 2.0 TFSi only available with Quattro+DSG which means even with carwow discounts its still 6k over my negotiated vRS price with similar spec.

If you use Audi finance, you can get it down another £2300, but I am not, and it still wouldn't be near my budget.

I guess it depends on how your financing, the Merc is roughly 5k more than my VRS but it's 25 quid less a month on the Pcp to what I assume is higher residuals.

If your not looking at Pcp or brand finance (as it seems you are not) then that makes it more difficult to get similar price.

Mondeo? I looked a top spec 200hp titanium x sport diesel on car wow and I think 28k was the best offer....

Just so you have it there's 660 between the back of the front seat and the rear seat back by the looks of it and 1462 across the back with 1398 at shoulder height, boot capacity is 475L saloon, 475l estate.

Whats the score on getting your deposit back?

Thanks for that tuonopepper.

Whats the score on getting your deposit back?

I guess its down to your dealer.

I emailed mine saying I was considering cancelling due to inability to confirm delivery date, I was very careful not to blame them and to sympathize that really they are in the same boat as no info from SUK. I asked, as given the car didn't have a built date, could I get my deposit back and stated I would accept a small deduction to cover their admin costs if required.

I just had a mail back stating if I need to cancel they will refund the full deposit, they have asked me to give them until close of play Monday so they can see what sales support have to say about dates etc. I'm happy to give them that time and will be progressing plan B to the point of having a deal on the table in the back ground.

I think the majority, if not all, who have cancelled have got deposits back.

My plan B is....

Keep letting you guys all cancel and jump ship and watch my build week benefit as a result!

My only bug bear is that my current car is scheduled a can belt change shortly and at £400 its an expense I'd rather not have

I have just been on a visit to a couple of dealers ..... quite surprised that I turned up in jeans and t shirt to a Merc dealer and was not dismissed as a waste of time !

I had a look in the only C series they had in the showroom, the full monty AMG C63, unfortunately the rears are going to be too tight with legroom for the kids, but I have to say what a lovely place to be ... I can't believe I would ever say this ... but I thought this is far to nice for the likes of me !

The A4 was a really nice car, and rear legroom looks at least on par with the current octy, I think that is no.1 backup plan, Salesgirl found a  new 1.8 TFSi multitronic SE Technik in metallic black with black leather in stock and will be getting a price for me later. She would probably have to do a great deal to tempt me to give up the vRS order though.

A changing attitude with Merc dealers I think.

I too turned up 'scruffy' and with my 3 and 5 year old who crawled all over the back and front of the car like it was a playground, so much so I appologised to the sales guy who couldn't have responded better by saying 'no problem, it's a family car we expect just that'.....how times have changed.

I'd probably prefer an Audi but the deals just aren't going to be as good.

I agree Fewie, the more people who jump surely build times will move forward, I have just sold my current car on the bay and now deposit money for Vrs is in the bank, paid a few hundred quid for a 206 runaround to get me to work and back, has tax until end of May, mot few months after that I will sell it on once I have my Vrs, going to be nice from a 1.1 to Vrs power!!!

The worrying thing is .... this month less than 100 vRS being built for the entire UK according to some info I have been given.

The factory apparently does not work weekends, and I would imagine if they were prepared to pay overtime or spend money to help speed up production, they would have by now.

Sad to say but it doesn't look like they are worried about meeting the demand, or prepared to do what is needed, at least that's how I interpret it.

It really is the uncertainty, if they said it will be here on X and if it isn't we'll lend you something decent I wouldn't mind so much.

I too have sold my old car and am running around in a 1200 quid Bmw, that means no finance payments etc so money in the bank. The Bmw is taxed until end July but there's always a risk of costly repair.

It's more about an indefinite wait though.

I agree, its the uncertainty.  I found out yesterday my provisional bw13 has disappeared, with no replacement.  I wonder if I'm caught up in the rumoured reshuffle of the factory, although the guy that had heard aboout that from SUK previously had provisional bw19, so quite different to me. Anyway....I am getting a hefty military discount on the vrs so the merc is a lot more still.  Seat do a very similar good military discount,  My plan b which will be investigated if I've no news in 3 or 4 weeks, will be to test drive a leon ST FR 1.8 TSI  I spec'ed one of those with some bits missing that the vrs has, and some other bits added that I've not added to the vrs, and it comes to a very similar price.  I hope ill get some news from skoda though.

I'd probably prefer an Audi but the deals just aren't going to be as good.

In terms of discount from list, I agree, the Merc probably takes it.

Carwow has best of 3k under list for an A4 1.8 SE Technic .... with over 5k using finance. The salesgirl I saw says she is keen to do business when I mentioned the prices on Carwow, and if she gets close to the finance deal without using it, she might just sway me ;)

I'll put mine on eBay as soon as I've got confirmation of build. I can hire a car through work for less than £20 a day if needed.

Gutted to find that my RenaultSport has managed to destroy a rear shock replaced only 10k ago, I'll miss the performance any handling but I'll not miss the flimsy build quality of French motors!

What the hell, I'll go on and spec one and see, guess that's what it's there for :-)
