Bixenon fault

Featured Replies

Hi all

Been experiencing an intermittent fault on the near side bixenon bulb - occasionally it will flash when warming up, sometimes it won't light at all. Took it to the dealers who found the fault code and traced it to a "rusty earth". Trouble is, it's till doing it. Seems to me that it's more than just a rusty cable. It's going to have to go back again. Any thoughts, anyone?

I'm used to bixenons having had two Superb Elegence estates and have noticed that both bulbs on the Octavia take a good minute to warm up and go very pink before eventually turning white/blue.  Anyone experienced anything similar?

I'm worried that this fault will reduce the life of the bulbs. Pink is not a good colour to see in bixenons.

Cheers

Nope, mine light up to full brightness/colour in a split second.

Same as Neily, although my offside light is lazy and usually ends up drifting right.

You sure that's not 'City Mode'?

This morning the dash lit up - check offside dipped beam error - and the orange triangle. Pulled over, stopped and re-started the car and it went away. Is this something similar too?

I know what you mean but it was VERY obvious and I've noticed it doesn't move well when cornering too. Also, the wee start up dance thing the offside light forgets to look right and goes up when the near side goes down.

I think I'll call it Clarence. I'll miss him.

Full white light from start with mine. Sometimes one of the lights starts that 'dance movement' a little sooner than the other but that's it.

AFAIK there was a recall for some cars with xenons. The symptom is flashing.

Interesting comments. Not noticed the lights being lazy at all - just flashing and very slow to warm up. Booked in to the dealer on Monday. Will let you all know what they say.

It will probally just be a loose earth or a bit of painted area where the earth wire sits.computer being over helpful. A better terminology would have been "bad" earth.

My last car with Zenons used to flash off then on at same point on same road. Think it was highway lights on the car auto sensor. This car had 2 1/2 yes with no problems and is same model. That's technology for you.

I'm having a similar problem. And it happen from the day I picked up the car. The first time I light up the xenons I get that amber triangle error and in Bolero in Car menu I see this picture with the message "Check left dipped headlight beam".

Although the left beam is working. If I shut the engine off and then restart it, it goes away. I went back to the dealers and they read the error code from the car computer. It was something related to the orientation of the beam. They reseted it and told me to check if that happens again, since they could not duplicate the problem.

Since then I got the error again several times (but it only happens once, the first time I use the xenons when I start the car) and I saw that sometimes the left xenon lights up with just a split second delay and that's what triggers the error. And when it lights up with that delay, it also has a wrong orientation. Maybe because the right bulb goes into that startup orientation dance before the left one and when it finishes it, the left one finishes it too and remains in a different position.

I have to stop the engine and restart it and then both xenons work correctly.

This is EXACTLY what I'm experiencing with the lights. Wonder if you also have other issues?

This happened to me today for the right headlight. Car is 4 days old. Does anyone have an update on this?

There's another thread on this, dealers have a service bulletin for a faulty controller that needs to be replaced.

Yeah, I did see the other thread. I have spoken to the dealership and booked the car in next week. The service guy didn't seem to know anything about the bulletin but we will see.

I am just a bit annoyed as I really hoped it wouldn't affect my car. No big deal but it just spoils it a little.

@jtypecav Nope, no other problem.

@Neily03 What's the link to the other thread? When I picked up the car, the dealer had no ideea what to do for this error.

Ha! Many thanks bichti. I'll call my dealer first day Monday morning :)

My first (2009) Yeti had a similar fault - as did a number of other Xenon equipped Yetis at the time. This was at the beginning of Yeti production.

Only happened, if I remember correctly, when starting the engine with light switch in 'auto' mode. Faulty controllers were apparently the cause.
