Electric folding mirrors

Featured Replies

Can the electric folding mirrors get programmed to operate off the key fob?

I think its a waste to have them auto folding every time the car is locked.
I also know it can be operated via the mirror adjustment knob....by the time I remember to put in folding position the car is off.

Hence if possible to operate with key.

Press and hold the lock button on your keyfob for a couple of seconds. It'll blow your mind.

I tried that but it didnt work

So if you do this:

- put your mirror operating knob in the "0" position

- exit car

- hold lock button on keyfob for 2 seconds

The mirrors don't fold? Certainly thats how my Octy mk2 works. Weird.

I think the knob is currently on L (I usually leave it in that postion in case I need to adjust when reversing). I will try 0 position tomorrow

Should be a nice feature indeed.

yes it is, downloaded from Skoda manuals. First line from the users manual and second from infotainment. How did you get on, does it work now? Does the position L O make any diff? I would like to use the same mode of operation as you have listed, cheers.

UK spec omits folding mirrors on vRS and not even an option as far as I know. On my Elegance, the mirrors fold when locking the car, option to set this in infotainment. Not sure if the press/hold key fob option works with MkIII if infotainment set to not fold automatically, will check later.

Mine fold on lock and unfold on unlock, a 2014MY (63 plate) Elegance 2.0 TDI 150. My car does not have Kessy.

There is a setting in the infotainment for mirrors called "fold when parked" or something like. I think this is basically the auto fold on lock/unlock option.

Pretty sure if the option is unticked they wont fold/unfold at all unless you use the mirror switch. I havent tried pressing and holding the lock button with the setting turned off however; may be the case they then fold in and unfold upon ignition switch on but is unlikely.

I would think that if you have the folding mirrors option then you have the interior manual switch and automated mode with fold when parked activated in the infotainment and using continued press on the key when locking. Need someone with the option to confirm.

Ok, I have just tested all options and can confirm...

With the option to "fold when parked" ticked via infotainment, they fold when you lock the car, and they unfold when you turn the ignition key, not when you unlock the car.

With the option to fold un-ticked, they only fold via the mirror switch but you also need to have the ignition on for the switch to work. The press/hold lock button on the key fob does not fold the mirrors.

I find the folding mirrors really useful, especially in tight car parks. I'll never understand why this feature isn't available, even as an option on the vRS.

Mine unfold upon unlock not ignition on. My car was only built in Jan however, possibly a build change.

Just to confirm also I dont have Kessy, just a bog standard 2.0 TDI 150 Elegance estate.

Is that every time you lock the car?

I would like them NOT to fold everytime I lock the car.....only fold when I choose.

I have also tried holding remote when knob in 0 or fold mirror positions ....they dont fold.

Enabling the set up through sterio means mirrors fold each time I lock the car after engine has been running (I dont have to hold close button on fob). They unfold once car is started.

Yes, every time the car is locked. I agree it would have been better if you want to choose when to fold if they gave the option to use the press/hold/lock on remote as with MkII, but I guess you can't please everyone. Regarding the unfolding, mine was a May 2013 build so I guess the unfold on unlocking is a recent coding change, might ask the dealer if they can change this on mine.

I like the fact that it unfolds when it unlocks, our is going to be built next week so i suppose this change is in. However i agree that it could be nice if long press=folding. Maybe when we get ours i can go poking around with VCDS to see if this is possible

thanks for confirming. Makes sense but doesn't match what the manual states. I wonder what Skoda would say if it was reported as a fault?

I have this option with a VRS in France. I really don't know why they have different options per country?

Folding mirrors is standard on vrs in Norway.

Yep I can confirm that the mirrors now fold up on locking and unfold down when the car is unlocked. Mine is a BW6 Elegance.

Really gotta ask the OP why all the locking and unlocking is a waste ?, the power in the battery is mainly created by the brakes so, this waste is fuelled by a recycled source of waste. I've also gotta agree, its a good visual sign that the car is locked.

still don't understand why they arnt even an option on the VRS ???

By the way turned the fold when parked setting off on mine....the mirrors would then do f all unless you turn the mirror switch to the fold position.

So if you want auto fold on lock/unlock or ignition on (as per early cars) keep the setting checked on the infotainment.

Have to say the folding mirrors and actually rather good high beam assist are going some way to make up for the drop from a vRS to an Elegance spec car.
