Help! Fault Code P0300 - Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected - Cylinder 4, 2 And 1..

Featured Replies

Hi,

Started my Octavia vrs after a few days and noticed it was misfiring slightly.. didn't think anything of it at first after a few laps of the block when i parked it up again i noticed it was still misfiring.

Started it again today only to find that its still misfiring so broke out the trusty Launch diagnostic scanner :P and it come up with :

P0300 Random Multiple Cylinder: Misfire Detected

P0304 Cylinder 4: Misfire Detected

P0301 Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected

P0302 Cylinder 2: Misfire Detected

Am i right in guessing its the coil packs? Googled the code and ross tech says coil packs, spark plugs, fuel supply and a few other bits.. Since the coil packs are the common suspects i've got my money on them.. had a look at them and they was looking a bit tired.

What sort of money am i looking for a new set of coil packs.. a price on OEM coil packs would be good...

Also what are a good upgrade set to the genuine coil packs.. And what sort of money am i looking for a upgrade set..

Could i take it in to skoda dealers if it hasn't been recalled already to have them done..?

Phone up the dealership and give them your chassis number. It'll save you around 150 yim yams-if you are lucky. Failing that then do the plugs as they could also be a factor.

I have changed fuel pump for a 4 bar LCR pump, New fuel filter, New platinum plugs and had the coil packs done by recall from skoda...

Had the car plugged into vcds last week and I had this come up aswel.

Now at the time the lambda sensor was kaput (which I have now changed) and the maf was goosed (still is and I'm running it unplugged)

But I'm suspecting the coil packs could be a bad batch... which even with new ones can happen.. otherwise, I have no idea what this can be! :-/

Actually saying that it come up with P1118 - Heater Circuit, Bank 1-Sensor 2

Just googed that and its a oxygen sensor.. when i cleared the fault that and something about mass air flow circuit kept coming back up..

Back in 2002 VAG were still fitting the coilpacks covered by the current TSB/Replacement scheme, so I'm not sure the dealer is being very helpful there. You need to look at the coilpack part numbers that are on your car now & see if they are the effected revision.

Did you mean November 2012?

Nope he said 'it was done.. November 02' with it being a 51 it makes a bit more sense I guess

Err mine's a 52, early o3 and I got the coil pack recall done a couple of years ago

yeah I know what you mean but obviously with mine someone must have had the recall done on first service or as soon as they went first time round..

You are being mislead by the dealer. The TSB wasn't running in 2002, It's only been going a year or 2. Phone another dealer up give them your reg & ask them if it's covered by the current VAG coilpack replacement scheme.

If your coilpacks aren't revision D or R they are covered by the "ignition coilpack campaign". Back in 2002 they didn't have revisions D & R so there's no way they could of fitted them.

ok will give them a 2nd call tomorrow.. but first things first is it is it my coil packs at fault..

also what would I need to fit the 2.0 TFSI coil packs

There must be more than one Skoda Dealer in Brum so would try a different one. Ask Skoda about "Ignition Coil Campaign No: 28 F7" As an early 2000's car you will be covered, even mk2 Octy's are.

With those fault codes It's most likely your coilpacks are goosed.

Why would you want to fit FSI coil packs?

ok will give them a try..

and are the 2.0 TFSI coil packs not an upgrade to the standard 1.8t coil packs..

Well FSI coilpacks look nice, but if you have the engine cover on you can't see em anyway.

So they are the same performance wise? what about Audi S4 coil packs..?

ok guys its update time :)

Today I put some old coil packs from my last vrs in just to test it.. it wouldn't start so I fitted my original coil pcks in and it started up first time with no misfiring.. white I was changing the coil packs I notice my breather was split.. someone put some copper pipe in it and tie clipped it together.. pretty pathetic bodge..  but could that be the cause of the misfire... could it be drawing in air.. when it was misfiring I did notice a hisssssssssss sound but didn't think anything of it at the time..

  • 1 month later...

Reviving this thread  because my update goes like this...

New maf

New plugs

New fuel filter

New fuel pump (lcr)

4 bar reg

And new coil packs... changed only a few week ago by skoda under recall. These are d decision items..

But.. the car shows random misfire multiple cylinders and doesn't go like it should. But before the coil pack recall on the old coils no misfire ever showed up on vag com!!

I've checked my coil wiring, looks to be ok..

Could my coil packs be buggered already??

Coil pack wiring? They sometimes get brittle and brakedown

I had misfires on random cylinders for a few weeks last year,I got Owens Developments to flow test and clean the injectors and its been fine since!

Try swapping the injectors around 2 at a time, clear the codes, drive the car and then read the codes to see if the misfire moves from one cylinder to another. If the misfire moves to another cylinder by only moving the injectors you know where the problem lies! ;-)
