I'm not really finding the lag too big a problem to be honest

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

999pooch,

that's very helpful,. Thanks very much, appreciate your pointers.

Now just to take the plunge.

Coming from the RS 5 which was awful low down I find it ok. I think coming from your S4 you will find it needs more torque and power but to be honest I'm really happy with the S3. I prefer it to my old S4 and S5.

The s-tronic box really helps. The only problem is the turbo lag. Can't get used to it.

I had a A4 S-line TFSI the other day & realised I had forgotten what turbo lag was! I kept putting my foot down and for a split second......nothing!!

A couple of times where I would normally nip out of a gap in my S4, I had to stop because the car didn't respond quick enough.

Never had a problem when I used to have turbo cars, but just goes to show how responsive supercharged & normally asprirated cars are compared to turbo's.

I think you get used to it eventually, I seem to remember with the vRS I used to keep it on, or near boost, when I needed to do any quick manouvres ;)

No probs, hope you get sorted :)

Yes you're right I've come from a line of 4 supercharged or NA cars and you do notice it. If I'd have been driving turbo cars then I probably wouldn't notice it.

Although ive not checked, you could probably pick up an M5 or M3 for that money

1M coupe for a specced up R price

Just don't start adding silly non needed options as the price will rocket.

Its not just leaseplango that do them at that price, quite a few lease companies are doing them. I'm guessing after 2 years the retail for them will still be very good.

Where have you seen any others near the leaseplango deal?

I looked for a few hours & couldn't get a like for like within 10%.

i.e fully maintained @ 10000 miles,

6 + 23 x £245 inc vat

Cheers for the original link BTW :)

Just noticed a Demo Golf R for sale at Johnsons of Tamworth- with 2000 miles on the clock and with DSG for a more reasonable £34995 price tag.

Blue Met seems to be the popular colour for their Demo car a bit similar to the Race Blue for the Octavia MK3

There is a thread on detailing world with best PCP/lease deals and the original post was by someone called Kerr who found somewhere doing them for £290 incl VAT/maintenance for a 3dr dsg.

Just found another in Caffryn VW dealer in Brighton-3000 miles on clock , more attractive alloys at £35000

Jesus christ.... these things are seriously quick, as I've just found out!!

Got in and read up the specs - impressive machines. A tad under 300bhp, but a fancy self-adjusting 4WD system and VW claim 40mpg!!

Is it me or is the technology in cars these days verging on futuristic?!

I mean, take that little Fiesta for example.... 1.0 litre, 130bhp and 60+mpg!

I feel old (and I'm not!).

Problem is ... It still looks pretty much like a boxy, conservative Golf unless you know what details to look for. People would pass it by without a second glance.

There is a specced up one on Autotrader and they are only asking just a bit under £41,000 for it.

(£5 under)

Ridiculous money!

I almost wish I'd not posted the original post now after reading all this....  That really is a fantastic deal on a car like this, and I'd be sorely tempted to get one and sell the Fabia...

'sotonjoe',

"people would pass it by without a second glance"

Great is it not, the cloak of invisibility, the thing that a Golf does best of all IMO.

Makes them worth every penny for which ever one you buy.

But Dark Grey Metallic seems to work best.

Let the shouty people draw attention to themselves and get stopped.

Isn't that the point. Ultimate Q-car?

+1, if you like fast but discreet.

Anyone want to buy my vRS off me?

I'm seriously thinking about treating myself to a Golf R to cope with my quarter life crisis! lol

Gutted I've just bought a brand new Fabia Monte Tech 1.2! Got to keep it for 4 years to get the finance paid off, then we'll see. I'll be 30 by then too!

Jesus I must be getting old.... just had a quote of £350 on a new one of these for insurance! I pay more for my modded Fabia!!

Prices dropping like a stone on VW WEBSITE used section.

Greedy sods at Hereford, trying to capitalise as usual!! Now have dropped £3k in a week

Cheapest so far £31995 at Listers Stratford upon Avon

The S3 I bought depreciated at a rate of £1 per mile when I bought it at 4 months old and 7k miles on it. I suspect the Golf will do the same.

Theres even a lightweight Golf R Evo in the pipeline. 370bhp, 4 wheel drive and only 1400kg :o

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/scoop/lighter-370bhp-vw-golf-r-evo-confirmed

If I had the money the Golf R would be on my list as a daily.  It would make life so easy.

One thing that made me smile though is the fact that 1400kg is considered to be a light car.  I'm fully aware of why it weighs so much, but that's still quite heavy.

^^ I thought that was funny too

a mk1 octy 4x4 is 1375kg and  I've never heard of that described as light ...

It the ownership demographic and likely number of claims.

My GT-R was £100 more than my tuned Fabia, despite having over double the power and being worth five times the price.

Without being too PC, the new Golf R isn't going to be ragged around by 20 year olds as much, that don't care so much if they bump into things.
