I had a Cupra 280 out on test before buying my R and my R defo feels quicker but Cupra felt lighter to chuck around.

Mind you the Cupra was about £6.5k cheaper than my R, it was second hand with a couple of thousand miles.

That is the DSG gearboxes...........

I was talking about the manual gearboxes which proves you do not know their designations..............

Also you should have noticed that the DSG version of any spec/engine is effectively de-tuned to match the NM of the manual gearbox version.........

There is a member with a Stage 3 Map & the hardwear mods including turbo on his Mk3 Octavia which is interesting,

but more interesting to me is the DSG Software changes, 2 pedal use.

For me with 1 foot the other thing is i never get to use 'Launch Control', not that i want to,

but what i need is a non Electronic Handbrake to be able to hold for getting a quick offski.

...........................

PS

VW & DSG & Nm.

2015 VW Polo 1.8tsi 192 ps.   Manual car 320Nm,   DSG Car 250Nm.

Figures for 0-62, top speed given as the same. Emissions are not.

Odd thing with kerb weights. they say the 1.8TSI engine is 7kg lighter than the 1.4 TSI Engine  (heavier DSG as well.).

Fair Enough.

But the New Facelifted 2015 car with the lighter engine and lighter manual gearbox and more 'torques' is heavier

then the Old car with 1.4 tsi dsg. !!

DQ200 worst ever.... I can not belive it is still sold.

Don't agree and I have done, literally, about, 500K kms in VAG auto boxes, 160k in 7 speed ones, and about 500K in manually over the last decade.

7 speed DSG dry clutched box is better than the 6 speed DSG wet multiplate cluches IMO.

It improves fuel consumption over manual where the 6 speed damaged fuel consumption.

Super relaxed cruising, no 40K miles oil change.

Yes it is not perfect, it does occasionally get confused.

Actually can handle 380 Nm of torque if one accepts the life span reducing somewhat (200-250 hp).

Looking forward to Renault's EDC version in the Dacias shortly.

Being pedantic you said they all this gearbox. They obviously don't, so you missed my point completely :)

I haven't noticed that the manual transmission engines have different torque specs to DSG versions. The skoda octavia, superb and seat leon brochures I have here all show identical engine specs whatever transmission is used.

Polo GTI 1.8 manual / DSG are different I believe.

Yes,

Both engines 192 ps, and with a Manual 320Nm & DSG 250 Nm, and yet the same figures other than emissions.

Odd weights 'Kerb / Unladen' for 3 & 5 door and Manual / DSG.

Looking forward to driving some onto a weigh bridge.

Seems to be VW Kidology going on.

If you look at almost all of the 2.0TSI applications, they all share the same flat max torque curve of 350Nm. The power difference is generated by how far that flat torque is extended up the rev range. AFAIK the golf Clubsport is the only one to exceed 350Nm

Main reason is that they all have the same gearbox which is the MQ350....................

called 350 because that is the max designated NM torque..............

Same reason the 1.8TSi in the L&K is restricted to 250NM as is fitted with the MQ250 gearbox same as my 1.4TSi which is also limited to 250NM.................

You don't understand do you? :dull:

VAG will de-tune an engine to cope with the WEAKEST gearbox for the trim/spec..................the 2.0TSI can cope with more power & torque than it currently has from the factory. However VAG de-tune it to a max of 350NM because it fits the MANUAL MQ350 gearbox to it which is limited to 350NM

The DSG gearbox fitted to the same car can cope with more power than the MQ350 MANUAL, but VAG DO NOT re-tune it so the DSG version produces greater power than the MANUAL version.

Same for the 1.8TSi 180PS restricted to 250NM same output as the 1.4TSi 140PS all because VAG fit the MANUAL MQ250 gearbox to both versions.............the DSG 1.8TSI 180PS chould be "freed" to produce more power..............but that would look wrong on the trim/spec/price lists..

..however they screw that up for the Polo GTI..............

That is because they fit the weaker 7 speed DSG so it is limited the torque output!!!

VAG limit engine to the Torque of the gearbox that they fit to the car!!!................

FFS.............. :dull:

It is good when they limit the Torque,,

and the gearbox hence the car is heavier, and the performance is the same, only emissions are higher.

VW have magic performance figures, or just the Automated Manuals do that much better.

LOL @ FFS.

Open your eyes, maybe get your cars on scales or a dyno,  thats what Motoring Magazines should do.

How embarrassing if they had build the 'drivers car' with the manual box and more torque and lighter and it was not quicker than the DSG version.  But then they need to sell DSG's which cost more, so which is sandbagged,

and then the Heavier new sportier 1.8 TSI 192 PS minimum actually is not Quicker than the terrible

180 ps 1.4 TSI in the real world what do you do, just publish Factory figures anyway..

Maybe someone should put up a 5 door 2014 180ps GTi DSG against a 2015 192ps 5 door DSG and a 2015 5 door Manual.

Some magazine maybe, or just VW Polo GTI owners.

Another reason why when I got my Golf the Octavia L&K looked carp in comparison...............L&K 1.8lt TSi 180PS & 250nm........................or a lighter nose weight & 1.4lt 140PS & 250Nm in a Golf.............the L&K should be producing over 300NM..................but limited because of gearbox............

OK, whatever. You win the Internet, have a star little boy.

LOL................

Can't help it if I do research on the mechanics when buying my cars & remember the stuff........ mind you having owned & done mechanicing on VAG cars for over 20yrs I know some things about them...............

also can't help the fact that you like to open your mouth & put both your feet in it.................just don't go getting personal in name calling & blaming me for your failures............. :finger:

Okay - time out!

All disagreements to stay here and not to be continued (unless in a meaningful and constructive way :p ) in the Pt2 version here.

This thread is being locked due to the 'potential' problems of a thread that's 'too' long and not wanting it to end up the same way as the original VW emissions thread.
