New Golf R

Featured Replies

Or you'd rather spend the money on something else like an extension or some very nice holidays? There's other things to buy beyond cars. Not buying the top of the range isn't always a poor persons option. Is a Fabia vRS or poor persons Octavia vRS? Or did they just not need the bigger car? Or do they have a much better car as a toy?...

Thats fair enough. A fabia vrs n an octavia vrs serve different people for different things. Can be a diesel octavia, more space etc etc. its just about needs i suppose.

But what does a boxster do that a 911 doesnt? Apart from cost less and perform less

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Golf R is a nice car lol

Boxster could also be a rich man's 2nd Porsche

Why? If you're rich, youd buy 2 proper Porsches.

A cayenne and a panamera?

Anyway I'm not reading the thread for the start again, have we done the pirate jokes yet?

I like your new Golf Arrrrrr, does it come with an eye patch and a peg leg?

A cayenne and a panamera?

Cayennes are nice cars. Been in one, was quite impressed.

The panamera is a strange lookin thing isnt it haha.

What would you have?

Cayenne :) customer I worked for had one! Lovely car!

They are arent they.

My neighbour used to have one. I was surprised how little roll it had in the corners too, for such a big barge

The sound of the exhaust too! If I had the money I would!

I would too! Wouldnt be the first car id have, but i defo would! Haha.

Was quite bad on fuel though. 18mpg springs to mind, and his wasnt the turbo version... Just the naturally aspirated v8

I'd sooner have a Cayman than a Boxster.

Love the dimensions of them. And I don't like soft tops much

Yes the turbo was the one I saw I think 8mpg with her driving came to mind!

Christ.

They arent that quick either. They are fast, but i mean, a GTR is much much faster and thatll do 20 odd mpg if your steady. And 2mpg if you arent...

I know it's more of a barge that cruises to be honest!

Its not 'poor' anything. Id rather spend my money on other things. Im more of a bike person, cars dont impress me unless theyre something really special, like a gtr.

Youd only buy a boxster if you couldnt afford a 911 or a more upmarket porsche. I cant see any other reason for having one.

Therefore. Poor mans porsche.

I take it you have one?

I know it's getting off topic but this whole "poor mans Porsche" made me chuckle so I thought I'd throw in my 2p...

If I was lucky enough to be able to comfortably buy and run a Boxter/Cayman I don't think for one minute I'd feel that somehow I'd failed at life because I couldn't afford a 911. I'd be chuffed to bits with it I reckon. I could see the point of the poor mans porsche theory if the boxter was total carp and people bought it for the badge but the reality is it's a fantastic drivers tool at a fraction of the cost of a 911 (but providing most of the fun?)

As people have pointed out cars aren't everything so I can see why some people might wishes to have a Boxster/Cayman on the drive and spend the rest of their dosh on a boat/holidays/second home etc.

I suspect Otaylor maybe able to afford to buy a Fabia vRS but chooses to have an SE as he prefers to spend his hard earned cash elsewhere. Does that make a Fabia SE a poor mans Skoda in the same way the Boxster is a poor mans porsche?

If had the funds for a decent spec 911 variant (who would be seen dead in a 'poverty spec' 911? Lol) then I think I'd probably be looking at a Ferrai or Lambo instead of slumming it in a lowly Porsche haha!

Now where did I put those paper bags? I need to wear one over my head when out in the M135i in case anyone sees me and thinks I'm poor because I couldn't afford an M3........ Lol ;-)

Ahaha. I know what you're saying.

Its just known as a poor mans porsche because its the most affordable porsche.

Driving a porsche shows interest in cars and driving, but the boxster is much cheaper than the more upmarket 911.

Simple as that. Dont look into it too much hahs.

Im fully aware you cant tell anything about a person by the car they drive. People in massive houses might have a massive mortgage, somebody driving a ferrari might be in a lot of debt.

Car really doesnt tell you anything about them. But 'poor mans porsche' is just a saying used because its as i say, the cheapest model.

I dont want a vrs for various reasons. I could have one if i wanted, but im just not interested in them. I'll spend a few K on a bike now n again n thats where i enjoy myself. I'm just not arsed by a 7 seconds to 60 car.

I just potter around in the car in comfort, doing 50mpg. It suits me just fine.

If i want a thrill, I'll get on the bike n go for a blast

Oh dear, what have I started! Think I might just get the porsche now to buck the trend!

My boss has a brand new Cayenne but it's a diesel.

My neighbour has a gtr which I thought about buying. He's never got above 19mpg in it ;) but he does have 9 points on his license.
