New Golf R

Featured Replies

.............and AWD, 300bhp, superb chasis & very good handling and rammed full of tech.

Yep just a dull Golf. ;)

All of those things come standard on a golf apart from awd and 300bhp. I'd argue that combining awd and 300bhp only serves to make the car more boring than the £30k performance hatches that the R is trying to compete with.

As a rule,it's well known that Golf is a boring car. Vw even market it that way, except they use synonyms for boring with more positive connotations, eg practical , reliable and so on.

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

That post made me laugh. Thank you. ;)

What car do you drive, it must be really awesome to compare the Golf R as dull & boring.

Evo magazine (granted not the 'be all' of car reviews, but a decent bench mark) have reviewed it & it came first ahead of the BMW 135. They loved it. If I were you I would send them an email & put them right.

Have you actually driven one? I'm guessing not?

Some good comments!! Made me laugh but I guess let's face it we don't all like the same cars. Thankfully!

Not a R obviously.

So the R lost to the Leon and the GTI with PP was quicker round the track. Very interesting.

No, I just make my mind up without driving them. What do you think?

Why do Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche etc not just make all hot Golfs AWD or all Audi's Quattros, or the others, instead of building any FWD  or RWD ones.?

That will probably be

VED, Emissions, Weight, Economy. UK NSL's, HMRC and Taxation,&  location, location, location.

Why do all cars not get Smoker Kits and Spare Wheels fitted as standard.?

Just Because!

3.78?? Bloody hell

Look at the 0-100mph figure, under 10 secs!, for a car costing less than 30K or £250 a month

So now that some time has passed, how many Briskoda members now own or have their Mk7 Golf R.  ?

Had mine for a week now :)

Only managed to rack up 200miles so far due to loads of other commitments, and just about to board a 10 day cruise around the Med, so won't be adding to it for a couple of weeks.

Will do a proper 'first impressions' in another thread, but love the colour (lapiz blue), looks blue in one light and cadburys purple in darker lights.

Handling is immense, Coming from an S4 it is so much better in the twisties. The car literally hugs corners, and can see why the car got rave reviews. The comfort is slightly compromised, with a slight chatter as its skips over bumps & lumps, but all is forgiven when you throw it into the next corner :D

Straight line speed is impessive, on a par with the S4.

The interior is a step down, but I'm basing that on a decent spec S4 with full leather superpsorts seats to a fairly bog standard Golf R.

Anyway, I'm off on holibobs, boarding in 2 hours :) will do a better review when I get back & put a few miles on the clock :)

The arrival......
