New Golf R

Indeed George, but the key thing is all other things being equal. Once you've maxed out the tech, then swept volume is your only friend.

I know, i have had 4.6 & 5.2 V8's on LPG, with Nitros & Supercharged.

All are equal or more equal and can cost more to feed with fuel.

You pays your money and pick your capacity.

Speed is just a matter of what you want to pay, and cheap speed is available, as is lots of torque.

I would say the future of most performance cars will be turbocharged low CC engines with electric hybrid.

Fancy variable turbo(s) kicking in with a fair bit of lag, with the electric motor(s) throwing power in at the beginning to fill the gaps. Seemless power from tiddly engines :)

This kind of thing will just filter down from what the supercars are doing right now.

Audi have the factories built now for those engines,

and are going ahead with the Electric Turbos or are they Superchargers,

because when the engine is not providing the gasses to power them or the energy other than generation the electricity forced

induction is a whole new game, Turbo / Turbo,  Turbo / Supercharger, & Supercharger / Supercharger are all solutions.

But Volvo are there as well,

& the Ex VW USA CEO is the Boss of Volvo.

In the meantime, my 4 pot -296 bhp will do nicely. Thank you.

Sounds pretty good to but then I am partially Mutton-Jeff.

Maybe time to shift them on before the 'Big Crash'

due to the word on the street being the gearboxes are made of chocolate.

But to be serious and not start an Internet Myth or Scare.

(Briskoda stylee).

What is the low down on an Golf R failures so far on Golf Mk7 Forums.?

Only know about the selector issue raised on this thread .

Just focused on mine really ,will deal with any malfunctions when they arise and report on here.

Currently running trouble free.

However, as you have asked I will check out other Forums over the weekend.

Had a few searches and asked around,

but heard and seen nowt of anything that sounds worrying.

Otaylor38,

VW went and got the same power out of 1,390 cc with Forced Induction as they were getting from double the cubic capacity,

and using less fuel & with less Emissions.

(some failures though even though they get Engine of the Year award 9 times for it.)

Ford are doing even better with 1.0 & 1.25 & 1.6, 2 & 2.3 litre engines and some 'Eco Boost', with more reliability than the VWG seem

to be able to achieve.

Now there are Hybrids Petrol or Diesel & Electric that are putting out lots of power that is usable and economic,

so there certainly is a substitute for Cubic Capacity now.

& then there is also the drive for weight loss & not creating heat that you need to use energy to lose.

I know mate yeah. Its all very impressive.

But i doubt they'll last as long as a naturally aspirated, massively under stressed 6 litre.

I think theres a happy medium between the 2

VAG doing a Fabia vRS on it already George.

This could be your New Year Projet for 2015.

Otaylor,

there was, 2.8 VR6 VWs, but they had issues.

I would settle on a VW W12 for stress free.

A white Golf R flashed past me tonight on the way home being driven like a tit... was on and off again in one junction. Definitely quick although don't think it will be too long before this person loses their license if they carry on driving like that. Looked to me as if they were doing a circuit so most likely being someone taken out in it to show what it can do. (The road they came from and went back towards was the same area, two different ways of getting there).

Just think what it would be like, if you were behind that wheel. Smooth, crisp and safe I'm sure. There will always be mad heads, hence our insurance premiums.

This could be a Corsa .......or......

Dealer is playing games with the price:

I'm sure you can get a new factory order basic 3-dr manual R for 26k, looking at the discounts available? So (ignoring the factory lead-times) I'm still not convinced that car offers any decent value tbh. It's probably even more disadvantaged over a new car if opting for finance as it will probably be subject to far higher used car APR and also have a reduced GFV....

Totally agree. I just don't see where the value is in this example.

One example Tom on Autotrader:

Still more than DTD though

So this car is £400-£600 different to a brand new factory fresh order with the ability to spec any other options on to it... and it has over 3,000 miles on it as a demonstrator. Yes, its perhaps the cheapest second hand example but with waiting times at just 10 weeks currently, isn't it worth paying the difference and being the first one to drive it with the benefit of the full three year warranty? :)

Tom,Interesting used comparison at BMW dealer:http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/1-Series/3.0-M135i/Glasgow/3415094-604622696-3497060.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_

How do they fair with discounters to used.

They are 'Asking Prices',  & a Dealership wish,  you do not tell people the lowest price you will deal at in adverts. well not normally.

it has no reflection on what you might buy the car for when they have nobody else biting.

No matter the Plate on it, it is a Demonstrator from 2014, and the year has changed.
