  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

It sounds awful - like one of the big U.S. tuned diesel powered trucks!

Rip it out, throw a 5 pot in! ;)

It will do for me!!

I can be totally biased, as I own one!!

Hope you get yours fixed soon, so that you too can continue to enjoy the drive.

Seriously, you like the sound? I think the soundaktor sounds better and that's saying something.

Have you done the exhaust flap mod? that can make it sound better with zero cost :)

You can always spice it up a bit Keith!

Listening to that on my phone it sounds a bit tractor like at low revs. A bit better at WOT.

Not for me.

Keep it standard .

Better, a V6.

My next car will have 6 cylinders, one way or another; and a turbo.

Thanks for the spoiler input, you guys ,you know who you are!

It was't just the sound enhancement I wanted you to appreciate or not, more the rear view as that would become more common place to many

I came from a supercharged V6 :) miss the sound a bit.

I actually think 8 is the optimum. Better than 10 or even 12. A straight six is pretty close, and of course nothing sounds quite like THAT Alfa engine.

Getting abit big to get in a hatch though haha.

v configurations in general do it for me. Vtwins in bikes are awesome, and the v4 I've got at the moment isnt too far behind

I prefer two turbos on a 6 cylinder myself. ;)

To be honest, of all the cars I've had the straight six RB26 in the Skyline GT-R is probably the best sounding car I've had.

Even on tickover it's nice.

How about 6 turbos. One mini one for each cylinder, plus a master for the big boost.

And only one exhaust.

I do wonder why VAG have started sticking four tailpipes on all these cars now.

It looks most daft on the S1.  220bhp car with 4 tailpipes?

More exhaust than car

The twin exhaust in the R400 concept looks better imho

Yup. Worse are these ridiculous big square finishers that have a couple of pee shooters inside. Stand up Honda you started that crap. It's one reason why a Mercedes is not currently going to be on my wishlist, that and the fact they look more Korean than kim Jon

If people don't have anything constructive to say in this thread (or the other trolled threads) then just say nothing.

There's nothing worse than ploughing through utter drivel to see posts that are actually worthwhile.

Yes, even the RS models only have two exhausts.  Although they generally use finishers.

They do look better than the S cars with the four tailpipes.  Just looks like it's trying to hard to me.

Noted, and an apology to all affected by these threads that it got out of hand last night and I can only apologise for this

Yep I'd also like to apologise for my contribution to the "off topic" on this thread yesterday evening :-)

Cheers for the warning.

Happy new year
