All depends on the price gap between diesel and petrol......i.e about 5p or 6 p a litre and petrol car doing about 35 mpg comes very close

Well at 55mpg I'm paying 7.7p a mile on 93p diesel

At 35 mpg in a petrol car (89p a litre) it's still 11.5p a mile.

That's nearly 4p a mile saving for a diesel so at 30k miles a year I'm saving 1200 quid in fuel.

The diesel will cost you a grand more to buy the car in the first place but you'll still get some of that back when you sell the car on , so it doesn't take too long before the oily car is saving you money.

Even if you increase the price gap between the two fuels and reduce the difference in economy it's still cheaper for high mileage drivers to use diesel.

The wife recommends diluting it with petrol..it's down to 89.9p/l at Asda? ;)

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I hear vegetable oil is only 29p a litre in LIDL or ALDI :P

I know someone at work was running a Megane on it but he has a few problems with the dustman and the empty bottles.

There is a thread on scoobynet at the moment about running diesel cars on Vegatable oil. Quite a few cars have problems with it but most run OK with a 50/50 mix of Veg Oil to Diesel.

Anyone know how well VAG diesels run on Veg Oil?

Cheers

The non-PD diesels will be fine. I used to use around 5-10% of cooking oil in my Ibiza TDI sport.

Not sure about the PD diesels. I wouldn't want to risk it TBH. :(

Anybody run their dervs on gas oil (pink diesel)? Last I heard that was about 40p per litre. Very smoky and illegal but so long as something like Millers diesel additive is used along with it, you might get away with it. I knew a guy who used to use this stuff all the time on a non-PD golf with no bother for the couple of years he had the car.

I believe the 1.9 will happily run with up to 10% cooking oil to 90% diesel mix, and it outlines in the handbook the spec the fuel needs to conform to. I believe Ross said the 2.0 PD engine was different and definitely didn't support running using biodiesel....

Unrelated but 52 quid is also the price inc vat for a replacement dashtop starage box (inc air vents) for an OctyII. Seems a bit steep to me.

i was just going through one of the american boards im on and they were complaining about paying 1.53GBP/a gallon!!!!

Their gallons are smaller, just under 4 litres, but still... :finger: for getting angry at having to pay that!!!

It's now actually worth shopping around - most here are 95.9, found a BP that did it for 92.9 (same day, just different area).

It's been at 94p+ for months now though

I can't remember the website but there is one that compares petrol prices in your area and shows you who's cheapest... AA petrolbusters used to do that but it's gone now, however there is another site out there...

Got

petrol is still under 90p a litre here :D

petrol is still under 90p a litre here :D

89.9?

How long before 99.9?

THEN WHAT DO THEY DO with the signs ?!

They abandon the stupid .9 of a penny and just charge you 100p a litre

89.9?

yep thats at morrisons still under 90p though

jet-88.9

and gulf 93.9!!!!!

I've never seen the point of the .9 bit anyway. Its like when they charge

I've never seen the point of the .9 bit anyway. Its like when they charge

There are places where they charge .5 rather than .9

No clue why either, that said :D

It's simply there to make dumb people think things are cheaper than they really are! :D

And it does work!

When I used to run a shop customers would round down 12.99 to 12 quid in their heads.

91.9 my way, but that's only at shell

Is there a petition still ongoing? why doesnt this country ever stand up for itself and actually protest PROPERLY?

It frustrates me emmensly that people only keep on the band wagon about something like this for a week or so then forget about it.

It also doesn't help when the government running the country is a dictatorship - people should remember that they are representatives of the people and a voice for them and not just to get voted in to control us because they think they know whats best. Most of them have just spent their life in a bubble at school and university so loose touch with the populas as they never live in the real world and never have a proper job.

LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL, GET PRICES DOWN TO AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL, WE ARE SICK OF BEING TAKEN FOR MUGS!!!!!!!!!
